The “Gran Teatro”, Havana

The Great Theatre of Havana was officially opened in 1838 in Havana, Cuba, although its first presentation occurred on November, 1837. Located in Paseo del Prado, in a building known as the Palacio del Centro Gallego. Today it is the permanent headquarters of the National Ballet of Cuba and the main stage for the International Ballet Festival of Havana.

The principal theatre is the García Lorca Auditorium, with seats for 1,500 and balconies, it provides a magnificent stage for the Cuban National Ballet Company, as well as other dance and musical performances. During the 19th and 20th century arrived to Cuba to perform in its stage personalities of the highest rank, such as Enrico Caruso, Fanny Elssler, Anna Pavlova, Antonia Mercé, Ruth Saint Denis, Ted Shawn, Vicente Escudero, Maya Plisetskaya, Clorinda Corradi, Sarah Bernhardt, Carla Fracci and Alicia Alonso, as well remarkable companies such as the American Ballet Theatre, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Antonio Gades ballet, the Ballet of the Colón Theatre of Buenos Aires, the Ballet Folclórico of Mexico, and many other personalities and ballet companies of high international relief of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Havana is the largest city in Cuba and the country's capital...
Cuba is a country in the Caribbean Sea. The country is made up of one big island and many smaller islands. Very nice tourist destination...

The recorded history of Cuba began on October 12, 1492, when Christopher Columbus sighted the island during his first voyage of discovery and claimed it for Spain. Columbus named the island Isla Juana in reference to Prince Juan, the heir apparent.

Thanks to have a look, George

I was surprised to see that this was taken in Cuba, not the kind of architecture I would imagine would be there. A very lovely and interesting old building. TFS

HI George
A great view of the theatre and the city life.
The cars look in pretty good shape usually we see so many old run down klunkers.
You did a great job of getting this shot.

hello george,

Relations with Cuba should be improved if Pr Obama gets his way. Then even more people might be inspired to come and see this great building.
I am amazed that such a small F stop has captured such sharply focussed details throughout the shot!
Your pov was well chosen giving a nicely angled view of the building and fine composition.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
