[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Tuesday of our second week in Cuba, I left Martine alone. I went with Christina and Frank on a special tour. With two jeeps, a guide Daniel, and two drivers we headed South toward the region of Mayari.

Despite the distance is about the same as going to Holguin, the roads were not as good. Therefore, it appeared to be much farther (^_^) than it was actually.

The mountains of Mayari called Sierra del Cristal are really surprising. We discovered a whole new world. Forest of pine trees even ! Large areas were cut in the past we noted. Nickel mines were also seen along the way. A very pleasant day. Like it happens frequently, it was raining at times in the mountains. This is why the region is so green (^_^). I will share some photos of this fun and educative excursion. Thanks to our guide.

Note:

Place of great forest and coffee wealth, the way winds between leafy valleys crossed by the rivers Mayarí, Nipe and Guaninicum that contribute the water necessary to maintain the verdor of the landscape all the year.

The Mountain range of Nipe is inserted in the mountainous group of the north of East, reservorio of the richest flora of the Caribbean, admired and studied by foreign and Cuban botanists from half-full of century XIX.

The existing microclimate, together with the mineral characteristics of the ground, has allowed to develop these botanical species that today are admired by the tourists in the different ecological footpaths that cross the region. They make possible to contemplate to imposing landscapes like Salto del Guayabo and idyllic places, as soon as trod by the man.

Very mentioned by the settlers of the region, due to its waterfall of 240 meters of altitude, this is a tourist natural area of landscaping and aesthetic excellence.

This water jump shares in a section with another one of smaller length. From a rustic viewpoint, a
narrow footpath is born of 1 200 meters that enter to the visitor in a vegetal thickness of ferns, palms and shrubs of varied raigambre and colorful until poza of San Rafael, where you can contemplate eddying
of the water in its reduction and obtain splendid photographies.

Technically: We had a small mist when we arrived on the site. Later it turned into a major shower but short (^_^). A fish eye lens would have been great to capture the whole scene. Image uncropped. Simply adjusted luminosity, tones, filtered, resized, sharpened, framed and titled. This shot is from the small observatory/viewpoint located next to the entrance of the trail.

Hello Robert,
Wonderful experience you are sharing with us, my wife's father family are all from Cuba, he was in the war here in Angola as a pilot and her mother as a parachuting soldier, her mother jumped 49 times from the airplane, on the 49th she was pregnant with my wife, she didn't know about it, my dream is to take a trip to Cuba and meet everybody from her family and also I want to know the country too.
Kind regards,
Nelson

Bonjour Robert

Paul

Wow, you're right about this being a whole new world! I love how the foreground tree/palm fronds create the impression that you've climbed out of the jungle and are just now seeing the amazing view. It reminds me of the scenery from Jurassic Park. I feel like something is off just a little with the trees down below- maybe it's oversharpened? But otherwise it's flawless. Great work!

What an amazing view Robert! Your shot gives the impression of great height and distance. In fact the land appears to fall away even further to the right of the shot! Great pov and tones of colour! Well done!
Kind regards,

Bev :-)

Hi Robert,
That sure looks a long way up, super landscpe. I like the foreground ferns and the tree hanging from the top of the picture.

oh wow Robert!
What a magnificent view!!!
From the size of the bushes and the trees you can get quite a good idea of the hight of this waterfall.
Great perspective and wonderful green stuff!

Cheers,
Anneke

Bonjour Robert,
