It possesses one of the most beautiful towers of the city and his architecture answers to the characteristics of the colonial Cuban baroque. It attracts the attention of the visitor, who is detained to contemplate it, in his hurried step along the paved square, where animated verbenas were celebrated during last century, centred by the fountain in Carrara's marble, ordered to constructing in 1836 for the Count of Villanueva, to the Italian sculptor Gaggini.
Some time ago was necessary to offer certain references to the public to locate it in the direction of the convent. Now he is widely an acquaintance, since his basilica has developed one of the most important spaces into the chamber music into City of Havana and is the headquarters of the Camerata Romeu. The concerts that there out-standing interpreters of the music offer coral or instrumentalists not only fill the wide place, but the majority of the times, a part of the spectators remains without entering. |
