We spent a lot of time in the town square in Antigua, which is truly a hub of activity. This woman, like so many others, approached us to buy some of her wares. Once she realized we weren't interested, she dropped the sales pitch, and would sit with us to rest. We actually became somewhat aquainted with her, and she would come and sit with us whenever she spotted us.

She also had two older boys who were always running around, playing with whatever they found in the park. She told us the boys' father had died, and in fact, she seemed to be very poor. She was a tiny woman, but hey ... compared to us, they were all tiny:)

We always asked before we photographed, and then gave them some money.

Guatemala is such a beautiful country!

Ciao Trudy

Beautiful portrait, a double portrait!
This scene has a slight resemblance to Bolivia
women carrying children on your back.
The baby is beautiful has a soft side.
A beautiful shot and great composition!
Have a nice WE
Greetings,

Sergio

Hi Trudy. I love these photos of daily life. Nice composition , expression and colorful. You have captured the expressions very well. The little one is cute no wonder the lady is very pretty.

Hello Trudy.
Having difficulties to post pictures with 800 pixels ?
Did I told you how easy that is with PhotoFiltre.com (free to use)
if not, let me know.
Picture is lovely, but the grain on their skin is not good.
Best regards from Jan

Hello Trudy,

Very interesting notes to accompany your shot.

The portrait, for me, is lovely, not just as a portrait, but also as a social document.
I adore seeing how the bond between mother and child is strengthened by this close contact.
The details are well captured and, the icing on the cake is, the youngster has your undivided attention!

Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hi Trudy

A superb daily life shot of the Mayan mother & child with excellent colour lighting & sharpness. I like the backward glance of the Indian woman, contrasting against the direct gaze of her infant. Tfs!

Hi Trudy,
A really lovely 'fmaily portrait', I like that you culd capture the child's look. Sharpness and skin tones are perfect, nice shot! TFS!
Greetings,
Kristof

Could use some brightening i think , her face and the infant's particularly, these people are one of the friendliest of Central America , Whether you buy or not she sat with you and enjoyed your company , how sweet that proves it out of no doubt .Thank you for sharing your sweet memories with us Trudy.

The lives and stories of people like this woman - in fact still of the majority of people on Earth - are quite outside our own frames of reference.

She has the look of someone who faces life with stoicism.

I think this could have been brightened a little - ideally you'd use a diffuse fill-flash or a reflector, but street portraiture is a tough discipline and often you have to take what you can get.
