OK, this one is just for fun. We recently visited Barcelona and decided to rent a car for the weekend and drive up to Monserrat and the tiny country of Andorra. Not sure what it is, but I have always had a fascination with the little countries of Europe such as Andorra and Liechtenstein, and so we arranged our trip to see it as well as Barcelona.
We had reserved an economy car, but the rental agency talked me into getting a Smart fortwo hybrid. Good for parking in crowded Barcelona, and the gas mileage was amazing! Surprisingly, for such a small car I had no problems fitting into it, I am 6' 1" and have log legs. Kelly, at 5' 2" or so, had plenty of room as well.
We didn't know what would be open on Sunday, so on Saturday we shopped for some fruit for snacks. At one fruit market, we happened to find these odd little miniature bananas, about 4 or 5 inches long. We couldn't resist!
So, the shot seemed to compose itself. My wee wife, with a midget banana, posed in front of our ultra compact car, in the tiny nation of Andorra. And there you have it! :)
The church in the background is St. Joan de Caselles, built from the 11th-14th century. The altar has been removed and is on display at the Catalan museum in Barcelona, but there is a copy inside as well as frescoes and other pieces of original Romanesque art. Unfortunately the church was not open when we visited, so we weren't able to enjoy any of it. |
