Spring in Vienna

A kind of an experiment...

While walking in the "Volksgarten" [Garden of the people] near the Hofburg in the centre of Vienna. The sky became overcast with threatening clouds, but luckily no rain. I put myself on my belly, with the camera on the grass, switched on the fill in flash to illuminate the daisies on the foreground. Well the dome in the background is from the Hofburg (castle).

Let me know what your opinion is about this experiment.

PP work:
Shot in Raw, adjusted contrast and saturation (minor) slight crop. Converted to JPEG, removed with clone tool some over exposed clouds, resized, sharpened and add frame and text.

Pretty garden of pansies Hansie. (Hey, that rhymes)
And I like the peak of the church over the flowers, and that cloudy sky - it's a super composition - well done
Janice

Hallo Hans.
Excellent Low point picture.!

Great POV. Amazing clouds and

Intersting experiment. and those colors in FG make a nice touch for the rather dull colour on B/G. Looks like you sharpen brush the tree on the left. IMO just let it rather soft. You still have some spots on the top btw

Yan

Beautiful. If not for the blue patches in the sky, I would have thought you PP'd it with B&W.
Lovely
Piet

Overduidelijk geflitst... ;-)
Ik vind het effect heel leuk. Die felle kleuren op de voorgrond en de donkere dreigende lucht daarboven. Leuk standpunt ook. Goegezien jochie.

Anneke

Hi Hans
With the last snow storm and the promise of another one this week end this is a welcome sight.
Very lovely composition with the lonely tree and the building in the background against those dark clouds.
Dot

Hello Hans,

Beautiful POV of this ellegant city. I think that Vienna is wonderful in all sesons, it is one of my favorites cities.
TFS

Best regards,
Sorina

Nicely done Hans, it is a welcome sight to start to see the change to flowers from snow and winter scenes from everyone, ---I do like the church peak but am left wishing for just a little more of it, maybe bringing your viewpoint up just a little---just my opinion, well done---Lynne

hi hans, its great that you experimented however, the flash on the flowers doesnt look right, i would of exposed for the flowers then maybe used a n/grad filter for the sky therfor no flash, the horizon line way to low for me also, but hey its good to experiment!
tfs,
scott

Hello Hans.
Excellent colours, excellent details and a great composition.Well done my friend.TFS.

Hi Hans,
I particularly like this low POV on this flowers (IMHO. not daisies at the first sight) and the remote castle!
Well tought the to use your flash, especially that you were against the light. The contrast B%W and colors obtained is so vivid and composes an appealing image and a hope for the Spring, indeed! Bravo! Annie

Hi Hans,
SPRING ? I can't believe it will come again. We already receive 403 cm of snow, 40 more are forecast for tomorrow. Just look at my last post to see what I am talking about.
So it is VERY refreshing to look at your spring and to appreciate the perfect composition of that photography. Thank you for the pause, I have to go back shoveling !
Ivan

He Spruitje,

Mooie vreemde prent.
Helemaal naar Wenen om het voorjaar te zien?
Bij mij gebeurt het achter in de sloot. Jawel, ze zijn weer bezig, de zwanen.

De foto lijkt me een beetje grijs maar dat zal vast je opzet zijn.

Oudoe,

Hendrik

Hi Hans, splendid composition with wonderful flowers in FG and great sky, very well done, have a good week end, ciao Silvio

like the bright colours against grey clouds
nice PP

Hi Hans,
So, here is my opinion:
1.Composition:*****; It is very surprising and original.
2.Impact: *****; It is a striking photo, very "sticky" for my eyes.
3.Colors and contrast:*****; just perfect.
4.Light:*****; maximum again:)
As long as I can`t put my finger somewhere and say:"Aha! This is what you did; I noticed it!" I think it is a very good photo and post processing technique.
Bravo!
Nelu

To be honest and completely honest this picture brought tears to my eyes. It is beautiful but makes me wish it were May now. Vienna is a place I could live happily in so many things around to do and so many picture ops.
I love the clouds they add a whole new 'attitude' to the picture. TFS

A super composition Hans. From my first observation I thought it was selective colour/ greyscale but then I saw the timny bit of blue sky as well. This is a very pleasing composition. If only I was young enough still to get down on my tummy to take photos... I learn a LOT from you!

Thnaks

Wia

Lovely low POV Hans highlighting those menacing clouds. Great work.

Regards Mark :)
