The Cathedral of Salzburg, with its distinctive controlled, double-front structure and the powerful image of the Old Town. The Baroque squares, surrounded him, forming a unique stage of the festival and used by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site would be appreciated.
Today's medieval cathedral had two predecessors, one of which remains in the crypt can be seen. The first cathedral of St. inaugurated. Virgil 774th Under Archbishop Hartwik (991-1023) This building was extended, under Archbishop Konrad I (1106-1147) with two western towers provide.
1167 burned in the core is still low karolinigische Cathedral. Archbishop Conrad III. (1177-1183) was then a massive Romanesque building built, the 110 m long was, five towers and probably had the cathedrals in Mainz and Worms were similar. After a 1598 fire was also being demolished.
The foundation of the existing, baroque cathedral was laid in 1614. By 1628 he was consecrated Archbishop Paris Lodron. Some forty years later, the towers and the surrounding squares completed.
The Baroque building impresses with its clear shapes, the standard decor and the glowing facade of his marbles. His architect, Santino Solari, was from Italy. He created the largest church of that time north of the Alps, of the architecture throughout Austria and southern Germany influenced.

Hi Janusz,

This architectural shot works well in B&W. The sky looks very onimous, as if a storm is approaching. Good POV and the fellow standing atop the metallic orb adds something unusual to the composition. Very sharp with excellent DOF.

Best regards,
Werner
