Schönbrunn Palace …

Or Schloss Schönbrunn [translated in English: "beautiful well"], but the average people who don’t speak German will break her/his tongue over the ‘Sch’ tone. This palace is situated on the outside of the Austrian capital Vienna (Wien), near to the ZOO. The gardens of this place are gorgeous absolutely a visit worthy as the whole city of Vienna is. So many rich and beautiful buildings from formers centuries can be found in this wonderful city. So after you visited the Netherlands and Rome, go to Vienna when travelling through Europe (I’m afraid my Spanish, German, Hungarian et cetera…et cetera fellow Europeans don’t agree, but so what?) And so is this palace, well known from the movie ‘Sissie’, is a gorgeous place to be, particular with nice weather. Many rooms in this building are open for visitors and you get a really good impression how the Habsburg Emperors and their family lived. Anyhow, this is a scanned image and did really some PS-work. And indeed it’s not a perfect photo particular the foreground isn’t sharp enough. But still I found it worthy to post it on TL. What’s your opinion?

PS-talk:
- panoramic crop
- increased contrast (+25)
- increased brightness (+20)
- added blue sky i.s.o. grey
- sharpened
- used noise filter
- final crop
- add frame and text

Schönbrunn Palace

Schönbrunn Palace (Schloss Schönbrunn) in Vienna is one of the most important cultural monuments in Austria and since the 1860s has also been one of the major tourist attractions in Vienna. In the year 1569 the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian II purchased the Katterburg which was located on a large area between Meidling and Hietzing where today Schönbrunn's parks and different buildings are situated.

The new name, Schönbrunn has its roots in a water well from which water was consumed by the royal court in Vienna. During the next century many members of the royal family of Austria spent their summer vacations and hunting excursions in the Katterburg.

Not many parts of the first palace survived the next century because every emperor added or altered a bit on the inner and outer parts of the building. By order of Empress Maria Theresa of Austria, the architect Nicolò Pacassi reshaped Schönbrunn Palace in a way of the style of the Rococo era. At the end of the so-called Theresianian epoch Schönbrunn Palace was a vigorous centre of Austria's empire and the royal family. In the 19th century one name is closely connected with Schönbrunn's, Emperor Franz Josef I of Austria. He spent most of his life here and died on November 21, 1916 in his sleeping room. Through the course of his reign, Schönbrunn Palace was seen as a Gesamtkunstwerk (total work of art) and remodelled in accordance with its history. (Text from Wikipedia.com)

Like the low view point you have used to take this shot, using the flower filled grass to lead the eyes towards the grand Palace.

Hoi Hans,

Leuk gedaan! TFS, Mariet

Supposedly, according to my Dad, my history is with Austria. My great-great grandmother Leopold was born there. A lovely place, would love to visit some day! Outstandin avoidance of the old wide angle problem "barrel distortion" Great color saturation!

A good point of view for this photo where the foreground is sgarp all the way back to the building. Your panorama view emphasized the length of the building. Very nice.

Thank you for your comments on my photo, "tall Ship" I appreciate it.

I took at least 200 pics of Schönbrunn and ended up dissatisfied with almost all of them, mainlt because of my stubborn persistance on wholeness of the palace, instead of including a complimentary moment as you did (with flowers). This is just perfect, bravo!
