I hope this picture doesn't cause unease, as the (suggested) subject is a bit of a taboo...
Taking a short break after cycling for hours and in the meanwhile taking a shot at a few ducklings (with the camera that is). When I turned around, this tree loomed over me, with an interesting pattern on the trunk and a nice display of leaves. The rope just was there.
The leaves had very lush colours, but I changed them to get a grimmer atmosphere.

PP : Crosshatch, Posteredges, Cut-out, all done on a rather large image-size so the effects are minimal. Copied to two layers. The top layer was gaussian blurred and blended with poor-light setting. The middle layer had the filter 'note-paper' applied, then blended in colourtone-mode. This layer is responsible for the decolouration of the bark and leaves.

Great! The photography is there to express emotions which exceed the words.

Hi Walter, you suggest dispair and all I could think of was boys having fun climbing up a tree, although with your excellent pp treatment, it looks very sad.

Great shot,
Marleen

very interesting and thoughtful post Walter.. indeed it is quite a haunting sight... i think he way you've presented it is very powerful and i love what you did to the canopy of leaves.. somehow it creates a feeling of hope looking up from this quite unsettling view to those gentle leaves reaching up to heaven...

really like this.. very well done :-)

Ayda

Nice treatment of the leaves and very strong composition. Absolutely well done!

I don't know why you suggest the taboo subject, because I don't see it like that. To me it is more a rope left by a boy who had been playing on it. And your photo is so full of the colour of hope and the young boy's frog's eye view of the big dark trunk, that I would have called the photo In Youth. You see how we can read things differently?

Well, I think I agree with Per, Walter. Anyway, I'd need a thicker branch... Excellent PP work though, it's a lot more grim than the fresh green that tree would carry now. TFS.

Great. I have yet to see such pattern and colour of leaves as they have come out here. With noose up - there was little chance of picture being seen as grim or taboo. Through your pp (a brilliant one), though you have tried to make it look bleak - the interpretation has largely been of hope and a work of great artistry.

Very interesting subject to shoot. I like that. The point of view is great, and whats even better is the way you have processed this. Perfect in every way. Well done Walter.

The good photo delivers a good scene, translated into a different message by different people. That is art. Nice work. I'd go for the swing on a good day, and my bad days aren't that bad. Sam

The TREE. I like the effect, it looks creepy and it looks powerful. Wonderful PP ...great work.
