[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This building is called "Ter Elst", it's the ruin of a Medieval castle. The oldest documents referring to this castle date from the 12th Century A.D.
From 1356 until the French Revolution the castle was owned by the Abby of Tongerlo, and was reserved as a residence for the abbot and his confidents. It is supposed to have been visited by Margaret of York and Philip "the pretty one" (Filips De Schone).

During the First World War, in 1914, the castle was partially destroyed in the Battle of the Nethe. Decay set in until the ruins were acquired by the Town council of Duffel in 1972.

Restauration was started immediately and 10 years later the ruins were opened for the public.

Hi Frank,

Great capture and well done on the composition. The sepia effect is well chosen for this scene. Excellent work.

Mike

Good point of view Frank. Even though this is a ruin the way you've composed the shot makes it stand tall before us.

Excellent composition Frank. I really like this. It is good in the sepia tones. It doesn't look like a very strong castle against the enemy, the walls look thin and the windows are large (usually just arrow slits). It looks more like a mansion to live in than a castle for defence. Very interesting though.
Cheers Joan
Thanks for visiting my photo. I haven't really used the new camera or lens very much at all. The weather has been dull a lot of the time, and we have been busy with routine appointments so haven't been anywhere interesting to take photos.

Αγαπητέ Φρανκ, Καλό Πάσχα σε εσένα και την οικογένεια σου. Ευχαριστώ για τις ευχές και τα καλά σου λόγια.
Lovely capture, the POV is ideal for this shot it gives your composition a dynamism that matches the subject. Very nice mono effect, but I also like the color version. The landscape is fantastic.

Hi Frank,

Great POV & mono tone of the castle! After reading your notes, it sure does have a lot of history behind it! Good idea for the mono tone as it does give it that medieval feel.

Well seen & composed :)

Moet vroeger een mooie burcht geweest
zijn, door water omringd..Opvallend is dat de torens het zo mooi uithouden!
De eenden vinden er nu bescherming!
Thanks

Hi Frank,
Excellent composition and I love the feel that B&W give to the photo.
Aaron.

"Restored ruins"... it sounds and looks a bit odd, doesn't it ? Just a few walls and towers which hardly would have a "wow" reaction ;-) As often subsequent modifications result in a patchwork of styles and material used.
All in all you had a good try to make a representable picture Frank, though I wouldn't have it framed on my wall ;-)

Excellent point of view and control of the light! The processing is something to study! Well captured! I will be back for some more!

Frank,
sepia works good here. I like the composition and the DOF. Good job,
Scott

The colour version is good, but this version is miles better, the definition of the building is superb. A lot of the time when you see shots cenverted to sepia the higlights become very burnt out, not here, you have got this seriously spot on for me.
great work

This angle gives a nice composition. For the B&W conversion I would prefer a bit more contrast. Maybe by making the blue sky darker.

Nice in this colour, maybe some more contrast, I am nitpicking, you see:-)))

Sepia was a great choice for this old building, gives it an old photo look. I like the contrast and POV. Well done, Frank! Have a great weekend,

Alli

Hi Frank,
Wow....what a great shot. Nice pp work as well. the detail in the structure is great and I love the way you've framed it with the barren limbs. Very nice composition and presentation.
Cheers,
Mo
