[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
As more people will venture out in the woods when the season changes to a warmer type, the risk to tick-infection increases. This picture acts as a warning, this little animal can cause lyme disease and apart from that the area around the bite can remain infected and itchy for months, resulting in a skinmark bigger than the insect itself. Last year I was bitten on two separate occasions, one of the specimen is depicted here.
(tips on tick prevention)

No camera is stated as the picture was taken with my webcam, which is low in resolution but quite good (although not designed for it) in the macro-field. Shot taken on a sheet of lined notepaper, the side of the square is 5 mm.

(do you think the frame is tilted ? I had that impression and checked if it was. I can assure you it isn't, it must be an optical illusion created by the background-pattern)

Very useful, Walter !!! Actually when we go on our walking vacations we always take tick removers with us these days. And carefully check every single night each other. And have found them and removed them...

Great shot of this nasty animal !

One of the rare animals that don't serve a purpose, Walter. Absolutely no purpose at all. I haven't been bitten myself, but I can't remember how many of these nasty creatures I took off of Dingo... I really like the sound when they're all swollen, ready to drop off... and then I squat them ;o).
Thanks for the link, it's very informative. TFS.
I really like your use of paper for the background!

It was a good idea to put it on a piece of lined paper; gives a good sense of dimension. I like the lettering as well. Nice shot from your webcam!

Nice composition and good ID of this pest for everyone. The little "aura" around your subject is a result of the low resolution of the webcam. A higher resolution camera with a good lens would have made the edges very sharp. But this is a very useful shot! Thanks. Jim

I never would have thought you could get a picture like this using a web cam. I'm impressed. Like your compo here. Neat border you've made. What I like most is the text you've added. It's incredible the way the shadow shows up behind it. What do you use to get text like this?
