[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Kerstmarkt in Leuven, capital city of the province of Vlaams-Brabant (Flemish Brabant), a good reason for another visit to this cosy, beautiful and historic university city.

The main part of the Kerstmarkt was situated on the Monseigneur Ladeuzeplein, the square near the library of the university. Lots of tents about, of course... so getting an overview of the market was impossible. But, as usual, looking up in a city pays off ;o)).

This sculpture is called Totem, and it was created in 2004 by the famous Belgian artist Jan Fabre.

Tech talk

Moved as close to the pole as I could possibly get.

Spot metered on the scarab's shields. Deliberately kept the brown abdomen dark.

Levels, curves, shadows and highlights.

Downsized and framed with home-cooked PS actions.

Hoi Frank,
Knetterscherp en een mooi contrast! Leuk om te zien dat het hemels blauw wel links, maar het wit van de wolken weer rechts van de plaat te zien is. Gaaf POV ook overigens. Top inzending mijn Belgische vriend :-)

Nice spotting Frank! It reminds me of The Golden Compass movie. Lovely monument, it's 3D like. Great details and colors. Your exposure is well managed.

Love the crispness and composition. Well presented. Your perspective picture is quite helpful for one to realise how awe inspiriing the sculpture is. But this picture is truly a lovely creative rendition of a great work of art. TFS

Frank wat een mooi scherpe plaat mooi kleuren en door de poc zeer interessant, mooi om te gebruiken in PP werk.

I have to yell, What a shot!!!!!! Love it, oops, likes are not allowed in a critique.
The pole acts as a pin, the poor beetle. Sharp, excellent details throughout, especially in the shadows. Nicely captured.

Eerst dacht ik dat ik de dierenbescherming moest bellen, maar het valt gelukkig mee. Ik hou wel van dit soort objecten in het stadbeeld.
