No luck at all to take a picture of this ship. i passed it a few times the last couple of days, but no blue sky or even a little sun to put this ship in the spotlight. But I had to post it. Why? Maybe some of the memebers will have served or took their training on the HMS Fearless.
The ship was build in Belfast by Harland and Wolff. It was launched in 1963, ans it served throughout the world in his primary role as an assault ship and headquarters, and later as the Dartmouth training ship. More information of the ship can be found on
www.hmsfearless.co.uk
Millions op people must have seen the ship. Because it is a filmstar. She appeared in the final scenes of the Bond movie 'the spy who loved me'.
It arrived in the Harbour of Ghent to be stripped by the vanheyghenrecycling company. The work started last week and until the beginning of march the work will be orientated on the inside of the ship, so the outside of the vessel can be seen until than in Ghent. It can be best viewed at the Wiedauwkaai at the Buckman Labaratories. I promise to add another picture of it when the sky is clear and the sun is out. It must have more charm than it has now. |
