The Langerei are a street and waterway in the center of the Belgian city Brugge. The old street runs of Gouden-Handbrug in the south to the curlew street in north, along the gelijknamige chorus. The street on the other hand of water is the Potterierei. Water course and the street have a slightly tortuous route, according to the bed of the original river the Reie.

The Reie have been bordered with quay walls from brick, with on top of blue stones dekplaten or iron a railing. The bldg., of leading two or three construction layers, have trade and woonfuncties, and date there from 15de up to 20th century.

Initially for the place the name Roye was used. As from the 15de centuries one retrieves the name breaker dam, what refers to the scheepsbouwactiviteiten. For the area one retrieves the toponyms Koetelwic or Ketelwic up to the 16de centuries also still, or briefly district, which be would situate in those surroundings. This would indicate on a district and landing stage which there would be already as from the 11de centuries is. As from the end of the 16de centuries the name Langerei is used for the long piece on the western bank of the chorus.

From in the Roman time up to in the 15de centuries water course an important traffic-artery for Brugge was. By means of the dam gateway complex there was a connection with the sea. Still up to in the years 20 of the 20th century binnenschepen laid. District knew many trade activities up to the 12de centuries; afterwards moved the heaviness point to the tap chorus and mirror chorus.

Bonjour John,

What a breathtaking capture of the cityscape of Brugge!
A great mood seems to be hidden behind this shot. The sharpness and POV are perfect and the cloudy sky is perfectly shown and enhances mood into the shot. The gentle wind on the water, creating soft ripples, looks simply amazing as it does wonders in your picture. Very well seen!

thanks and regards,
Paras
