First of all, this has nothing to do with Adam or the new owners of TrekLens, who I wish all the be best!
I’m quite a newbie on this site and really enjoy it. However, during the last weeks, I read many comments (on photos or on the TL-forum) stating that TL is loosing its “soul” (less creativity, unconstructive comments, photo droppers, etc), causing some “old” TL-members to quit and others announcing they’ll do the same. Perhaps this is just a normal phenomenon for a growing website, but what made me think was that, a couple of days ago, yet another “TL-monument” decided to quit. Her leaving TL made me post this picture expressing my mood (not in general – I’m fine! – but my mood when I connect to TrekLens). I’m not wanting to open a discussion here (there’s the forum for that), but just to share my hope that this site will remain a respectful AND sincere place for exchanging opinions on photos and learning from it.
Some photo talk: I took this one with my analogue Canon EOS 300. So, it’s a scanned negative (iso 200) which I adapted to my mood (saturation change as to enhance the grey/blueish tones, brightness -5 and sharpening (+5) after resizing for TL). Oh, yes: this is what could be called a typical Belgian summer sky ;-). I like these skies, because when the sun finally breaks through, the World looks so peaceful and so beautiful…
As always, I welcome your comments, critiques and suggestions.

Ha. Nice note. I like the colors, very dramatic and different. I don't think the site is losing its creativity- I see more creativity each day I am a member of the site- and I have only been here since January. Anyways more of the picture....good details and nice POV.
TFS!
Leanne

Excellente photo ! Belle perspective, beau paysage! Les couleurs de traitements choisies sont intéressantes!

Hi Eric

Probably not the place to discuss this, but I've found personally that it seems to be 'business as usual' for TrekLens ... stalwarts and monuments come and go, people earn their stripes and move on. You could call it the succession of generations, perhaps quicker on a website than in real life, but much the same principle.

There have always been politics, favouritism, bad sports and bullies, but I agree with Leanne that there is as much creativity as ever - and if not as much finesse and skill, there is still passion and a love of photography.

A beautiful shot, well composed, I might just suggest you turn up the brightness. ;)

The moody tones here are excellent, especially the hue of the field under those oppressive grey clouds. There is also a strong sense of distance and emptiness. The symbolism works well...and I like the anticipation of those clouds parting to let the sun shine through in all its warmth and brilliance:)

Hi Eric!!
i am quiet new member on TL as well and your note to that picture made me think about it... if it is truth that that site slowly loosing its soul i am realy sad! as in poland i (very shortly) was a member of one "art" site- this one doesnt have soul at all- comments are so useless, people can afford just to give notes as "fine", "nice" "bad" "i dont like it".. and it was so so disappointing.. and next i found this site! every photo with its own comment or critique and every so different and unique.. only because of this site i decided to learn more about photography! because of people, their great shots and comments, they made me think about what i am doind with my camera, why i took this or that picture... and the most important- people on this site 'trained' me to write about my pictures and after reading their comments i contemplate more when i am writing my comments, i also know that it is not enough to write "nice" or "bad" photo, i also have to think WHY is that!!??

i am realy greateful that i found that web site and i hope we will never lose it!

in return i`m posting my workshop to your photo ( which i realy like because of its darkness and hopeless... it looks like the better days will never come again.. you created exact mood in your photo to that note)

regards
Maya

thanks for the photo and your comment Erik! The green-blue tones of the picture are specifically plaisant to my eye! Maybe a little bit dark with your comment, but the anaogy with the sun coming after a loud sky looks like a hope!

Hi Erik,
Very interesting shot. The heavy mood is so good that I have to theme it. I like particulary your work with the colours, that green/blue tone is super and gives the feeling to the shot and turn it in a great pic. I wouldn't minded to put it in my wall.
Excelent,
Aida

Brilliant use of a scanned negative, the bluish tones work wonderfully well in the foreground.

What a lot of work to put your notes in three languages, it is much appreciated!

TFS, well done!

Alli

P.S. I'm an "old" Treklenser who still stops by on occasion...

Good Errie Ambience youve managed to capture
Congrats
