On the train - yes, but going where? Following a train of thought, and being caught out by a double reflection on the real meaning of "going somewhere". In actual fact going nowhere, as so many have already gone here before. But some tracks simply have to be covered to be able to head for new horizons. Déjŕ vu is the name of the game.
So what the heck - a self-portrait.
Technically just me getting used to living with layers.

Nicely done, but this must be a composition of more than one photo. Th reflection does not match the original, it seems to me!
I guess you intented this effect?
Anyway, nice idea!
Have added you to my favorites...

Sometimes my train rides, the ones i dont need a ticket to ride them, take me to nowhere...and nowhere is a marvelous place. Is where you discover yourself and where you just realize if your train ride is getting you somewhere. Then...when you are in nowhere and just fiind you´re not going somewhere...only one solution: jump out of the train!
But you would never had jumped from the train if you hadn´t been there, in nowhere...

Workshop: After jumping out from the train you must understand why you did it..so...place you next to the railway...place your eyes in the horizon to see at a safe distance if that railway is going to somewhere...and then...well...just turn your back or sit there...waiting for the next train.

Well, this is you watching you, altogether, a very nice portrait, and good looking man, determined and serious :) Photo is neat, i like the point of view and the reflection, plus the pp in it, truly effective. - I have hard time with layers using Gimp, hope it is simpler for you - layers are the roots of good and solid pp. Well done Per, you join us to the sp theme.

On the train, going where the tracks will take you I guess. For me the train is a very weird mean of transportation. You can go to the end of the world in a train, but still you're limited by the tracks and don't have much choice about your route. Very nice picture. You seem to be lost in your thoughts. How did you set up this shot? Had the cam on your lap? in your hands? on a tripod?

This is a very imaginative way of presenting your self-portrait. The low angle and reflections in the trains window are very good. Very good idea, Per.
In what way did you use layers. Was it in post processing.

This would be perfect for the TrekEarth scavenger hunt "People On Public Transport", but I guess the shooting date doesn't fit.

Points tomorrow. Done

Interessant note. Nice shot.

Dear Per, those goes nicely along with the note a very thoughtful Per :) Technically it is not perfect with the hotspots, but it is one of the pictures where this underlines the "technical atmosphere" of the background. Very nice self portrait :) Yours, Jan

I very like the final-effect :D

Someone strange is following you......lol!!!!

The low angle of view works well here. There are also nice lines leading the eye in various places, but always ending on your reflective face. This is a nice, thoughtful image.

I was about to comment about your reflection having a life of it's own when I read your note. I like it! I know what you mean about travelling and Déja Vu. The longest I've been in a train was from Montreal to Halifax (roughly 20 hours of travel). It becomes a weird sentiment after a while to be 'travelling without moving'. A nice self-portrait. Bravo.

Hi Per,

Nice to see you ;) I think this is one of the most creative selpotraits i have seenin a very long time. It is really really good. I like it cause more then showing what you look like it also tells a story. You are on your way to work, riding the train/tram/metro, looking out of the window as well all do...pasing time by looking at the world outside. So it becomes more then "just" a potrait of you. It becomes a potrait of "the everyday comuter and worker" who rushes of to work. Itis a picture wre we can regonize our selfes (well, i don't have any beard but... ;)). I have actaully been looking at this potrait a couple of times before without comentng on it, cause i haven't really known what to write. I had to figure out what it was that appeald to me before writing. I guess i did that this morning :)

Have a great day at work and a wonderfull evening at home.

How could I have missed this one? The title should be “ the gentleman in the train”. Excellent self-portrait. Very strong determination in the eyes makes this picture very powerful. Thanks for sharing

Hi Per!
Very good that portrait, the casual glance addressed for the window and the reflex were excellent, very creative and natural!
congratulations, beautiful composition!
David.

It's very amazing, I have taked a similar picture (you can see it in my account). But I'm not as popular as you because I beacame only 6 points for this picture.
Congratulation.

I couldn´t imagine it was a self-portrait... very creative!!!
Nice tones, also, although is slightly overexposured, I like it.
Cheers!
Carmem

hi Per,
Actually i've crossed this photo before, but i didn't realized it was a self portrait... now it has another meaning!

Great ideia, the final result is very good.

Mário

Nice self portrait and particularly with the way it doesn't look like one. I would have guessed this was you shooting someone across from you with your camera on your lap (a shot I often do myself when I'm on a train) nice work here.

The lighting/reflections/ clairity work really where for this photo. Nicely done. TFS
