Walking through the endless fields of the Hesbaye Plateau, we felt the need for a change and decided to make our way to the Meuse river. A small and densely wooded valley with impressive rocks led us to the hamlet of Sclaigneau: just a row of workmen’s houses in the shade of some industrial plants along the railway and, of course,... Le Petit Matelot.
Strangely, no sailorman to be seen. Even not a little one. Just a lost cyclist passing by.
This must be Belgium: a fascinating, surrealistic mixture of landscapes and atmospheres, of harmony and contradiction. I also could have shown you the naked lady with the pale skin walking gently on the railway tracks (you surely know her: the lady of the famous Paul Delvaux paintings), but well, this is TrekLens, isn’t it?

Traversant les vastes champs du plateau de Hesbaye, nous sentions le besoin d’un changement de décor et décidions de descendre vers la Meuse. Une vallée étroite et densément boisée, auréolée de rochers impressionnants, nous conduisit au hameau de Sclaigneau. Pas plus qu’une rangée de maisons ouvrières et quelques usines le long de la voie ferrée et, bien sûr,… Le Petit Matelot.
Bizarrement, point de matelot dans les parages. Même pas un tout petit. Juste un cycliste égaré passant en toute vitesse.
Décidément, c’est ça la Belgique: un mélange fascinant et surréaliste de paysages et d’ambiances, d’harmonie et de contradictions. J’aurais aussi pu vous montrer la dame à la peau blanche qui, nue, se promenait sur la voie ferrée (vous la connaissez sûrement : celle qui figure sur les peintures du célébrissime Paul Delvaux), mais bon, on est sur TrekLens, n’est-ce pas ?

We liepen al een tijd door de uitgestrekte velden van Haspengouw, toen we plots nood hadden aan iets anders. Dus maar naar de Maas afgezakt, via een smal en dichtbebost valleitje met indrukwekkende rotspartijen. Zo kwamen we terecht in Sclaigneau: niet méér dan een rij arbeidershuisjes in de schaduw van een handvol fabrieken langs de spoorweg. En, uiteraard,… Le Petit Matelot.
Een matroos was echter nergens te bekennen. Zelfs geen kleintje. Alleen een verdwaalde wielertoerist.
Dít is België: een fascinerende, surrealistische mengeling van landschappen en sferen, van harmonie en contradictie. Ik had u ook de jongedame met de bleke huid kunnen tonen, die naakt langs het spoor wandelde (u weet wel, die uit de schilderijen van de befaamde Paul Delvaux), maar ja: dit is TrekLens – niet?

Belle composition, bien vu, très beau noir & blanc.

excellent shot.

Je gaat me weeral ne rare kwast vinden ...

De compositie vind ik goed gevonden
en het is ook een beeld waar je ( ikke toch )
naar wilt kijken, zeker door de wazige fietser.
IMO is Z/W hier dé juiste keuze
" but " ( of wat had je gedacht ... )

Ik vind je grijstonen, op mijn monitor, niet echt goed.
Zwart is té en ik mis wat doortekening, contrast.
( Ik zie alle blokjes in de " calibration check " afzonderlijk )

Heb ook een " probleem " met je scherptediepte :
van voor tot achter scherp.
In deze foto lijkt me dat niet nodig : de treinlichten mogen voor mijn part iets onscherper zodat je meer de aandacht trekt naar combinatie fietser en uithangbord.

Dus ...
zet deze foto ergens ( min A3 ), waar liefst ik ook ben,
en daar gaan " we " zeker eens over praten !
( pintje erbij, je weet hoe dat gaat ... )

Al-bij-al ben ik nog redelijk normaal gebleven :-)

sincèrement, c'est digne de certains grands maîtres de la photographie N&B
la composition sort de l'ordinaire, le choix de cadrage, les proportions, les lignes, le petit matelot et le rapide cycliste, pas besoin d'en faire une analyse trop poussée, j'aime, un point c'est tout

Belgitude.....alsof Senghor het bedacht heeft....fantastisch, en inderdaad, de plaat ademt belgitude, ontegenzeggelijk.

I really like the treatment of this - the b&w is rich and beautifully strong.

Great details in the brickwork and the stones along the rail tracks.

Beautiful construction of the shot, with good alignment of elements - perfectly horizontal or vertical. The railway crossing sign is strongly placed in the frame too.

Intriguing and interesting. I like this!

Very,very good photo (in my humble opinion)
Even I prefer color photo,b&w works very well here... Whole scene reminds me on movies from 60's...
and specially I like motion of bike driver....
