My contribution to the coffee challenge theme from Kit . Had an old coffee grinder to reflect the good old days , I remember when my grandmother used this one and the smell from the fresh coffee ..Used the high key approuch here to create a special effect ..it isn't done with photoshop.
did burn some and dodged , cropped and framed .

I posted a picture of the setup as a ws , so you can see I did used my kitchen as a studio :-))

Simple, clean, sharp and effective - eye catching shot. What is the "high Key approach" ?
Sam

Nice! What a realization, thanks for showing the setup too (it's very interesting). The high-key approach is something I want to try some day... When I'll have the time... :-D
I hope everything is going well, Leon. See you!
Groetjes,
Annelies

Hi Leon,
Very nice entry for the challenge with great colors and an excellent composition. These old grinders were doing a perfect job, better then the electrical one we are buying now.
Well done.
Luc

Some brilliant pictures today on coffee Leon -worth preserving and cherishing - this would be one of them. You have so well managed the nostalgia of old coffee grinding machine here - the flowery cup and the bright background et al. Congrats for a wonderful posting.
Mukesh

bonjour leon
je le reconnait c'est le moulin de mémé.
composition simple mais jolie.
laurent

Good old way! The grinder make no noise in the morning. Less agressive, same good smell! Small mug with nice flower. I like the impression the time stop by here!

i like the grinder :) i think its cute :P
well composed photo Leon
excellent entry

Great set-up and a good result. Like the high key but would have liked to have seen the whole rim of the cup and saucer. The olde worlde choice of cup and saucer blends very well with the old grinder
Barry

Hi Leon,
lovely idea, I also have such an old grinder from my grandmother, together with this cup, it's a beautiful contribution for CC.
Thanks for sharing

No sounds this time? ;)
Two objects in bright light; very pointing out; attractive modern setting of old materials; I like that Leon
Thanks

!

Great contrast. Wonderfull brightness, it looks old I think even because of the colour. Still it is a photo that fits in this time aswell! That I think makes you a real artsist!
Dorien

Lovely simple shot

Great Studio shot
good all round composition
only thing I cand find wrong is you could clone out the shadows

Hi Leon,

This is wonderful and very well presented. My WS is very similar to yours also, It's small and setup where and whenever I want it :) Great work!

John

And a nice contribution it is Leon, with the "manual" included ;) My aunt used a grinder like this (instead of an electric one, because this model would give an excuse to sit and chat :-) ) Occasionally I was allowed to do the job... perhaps that's what got me addicted...
The set-up of this still-life is simple but effective, the result just as it should be, with a humble frame.
What kind of light did you use ? And how many takes did you have to make ? ;-)

Groetjes

A wonderful composition nicely presented, Leon!!
Simple, sharp in its details with vivid colours. The elements are placed so well and the light is excellent.
Well done!
Constantinos

Very nice contribution to this theme. Very nice play with light and shadows, the white BG focuses attention to the main subject. Very well exposed and presented.
Vassilis

Great job, Leon! I like your high key approach. It's a touch of the very modern with the very old pieces!

Gayle :)

J'aime cette manière de faire un focus sur un obbjet, ici la machine, quitte à laisser les alentours se battre avec la lumière, ici la tasse. D'ailleurs, cette tasse, elle s'en sort admirablement bien...
Une belle oeuvre.

Oh yeah, my grandma has one of theese... I think she used it mostly for pepper... for coffee she has an electric grinder. :) And the old model cup I saw in her house too! It's real china! Very good "retro" with the compo, the colours, all!
TFS,
Bebe

Those good old days...you really managed it well. Now all you have to do is give it a software job (antique). Will for sure take us back. Love this capture.

Ancient and modern.
Antique in digital.
Good choice of objects and I do prefer the old way - far less stressful and there is a feeling of being creative, instead of electricity doing the job. Quieter, too. A slower pace of life - all added to by the trad crockery.
I am absolutely busting to do a crop, though. I will not rest until I have cut off the RHS, right into the overbright cup and saucer. Not because it is overbright but because I want to decentralise it a bit AND I just love cutting into circles. I'll do it but I won't show anybody. Just keep it for ME!!!
NIcely done, Leon.

Great image, well composed, however, I feel that it is slightly overexposed on the cup. But, it still portrays a good message about the coffee.

Very good studio shot.

Hi Leon, I like coffee
I remember when my grandmother grinded the coffee with that object. I still possess the millstone coffee.
The photo even if simple it is well composed. The white field and the frame is perfect. Ciao Mari
