Or... grey on grey ;o).

Last Monday I had to hurry to the centre of Antwerp during my lunchbreak, to collect a repaired imagetank. Since I had some time left before the departure of the train I decided to take a walk.

Then I noticed the top part of the Central Station against the rain-packed sky. I loved those different hues of grey, and their contrast with the gilded ornaments, so I couldn't resist taking a few shots.

I took this one in jpeg and raw, but couldn't find anything to alter in the raw version.

Tech talk

Straightened (which was a bit hard here).

Croppity-crop.

Downsized for TL : 72 dpi » 1200 dpi, 3233 pixels height » 800 pixels.

Applied USM 18, 40, 0; USM 150%, 0.3, 0.

Added Frank's framing.

I re-wrote my intro late in December. Feel free to read it if you have some time. One thing I'd like to repeat here is my opinion about the point system; please leave me a critique if you want, but there's no need to add points. As far as I'm concerned, spend your daily amount of rated critiques on newbies or on members that really care for points. I don't... I care about useful critiques ;o).

Anyway, thanks for stopping by !

Hi Frank,

Intersting capture and well done on the composition. It's o.k. ;)
Gosh, with that kind of USM, I think you better get yourself an "L" glass, You won't have to worry much about USM, if any. Holy Cow!!! What photoshop do you have.? CS, CS2?

Mike

Hi Frank

Excellent shot, great POV and very fine framing. Well, I think this photo has lack of contrast and somewhat of sharpness to enchanced the details. So, I made a WS for it! :)

About the points you're right. But I think this shot deserves the two points from me! :)

Very nice composition, Frank. And an excellent grey on grey, as you say, enhanced by the golden parts near the top. I know you didn't like my framing the last time, so don't think this is tit for tat, but I think this image needs a clean break at the borders. But you're probably like me; framing it the same way no matter what! Great job!

Very grey on grey indeed, Frank, but with the nice break from the golden parts of the tower. Nice off-centered composition with nice sharpness & details on the roof. Well done!

Very ornate building here Frank.. love the GOLD bits!!!...Nice and sharp and composed well... BUT ..sorry dont like the frame Specially around the building bits.. just doesnt look right in my eyes..

Hey you wanna come to some place where the SUN shines.. lol...
Greetings from NEW ZEALAND....
Dawn. :-)))

opps sorry clicked the points in error.. so used to doing it..

Pardon my French, but holy crap! This is definitely going into my favourites, which is over-flowing. The details are phenomenal, just so beautiful! The hues of gray really contrast one another impeccably, and that small amount of gold looks superb against the dismal heavens. I read the note, and I'm not giving points for the numbers, but I give them for the little happy face. :)

Really gorgeous shot Frank, and I can barely tell you realigned it, it looks wonderful.

Biance.

Frank, grey, grey, grey, but oh the gold gives a good glow here... I like your Central Station - what a super building it is. Good compo, off centred and sharp enough. In fact, the greys sure emphasises how dull the day is, and it doesn't seem to matter, as long as it's Belgium and not NZ!
Janice

Perfect accent for a rainy gray day, a glitter of gold. This is an impressive train station and I'm glad you captured it. The composition, POV (isn't parallax fun! ;-))and tone sets the mood that you describe in your useful note. The frame is interesting. How did you do it?
Regards,
Lois

That grey sky really makes this pop out of the screen. Excellent sharpness Frank. Well done.

Lovely clarity and muted tones. I like it regardless of the weather. B

Hi Frank,
Lovely composition here. I really like the grey on grey contrast. Those golden ornaments really enchance the photo even more!

Well seen & presented :)
Constantinos

I think it doesnt look good on bright blue sky as that much! Your shot is great with that similar grey colors. Details of station building is sharp and amazing. So nice!
Elif

Hi Frank,

This is a beautiful capture especially against the grey sky, It really promotes the station roof and creates a certain ambiance. Composition and detail are excellent. Beautiful shot!

Ce magnifique dôme gris et or tranche merveilleusement bien sur ce ciel aux couleurs de la grisaille. J'aime bien la netteté des nombreux détails de cette splendide construction. Belle trouvaille...
