I love backlight for plants and flowers, if done well, like this one, it sings, thanx, M, (*_*)
Hi Frank,
Very well done with this one. I love the lighting and backlit effect. Excellent capture with amazing detail.
John
Very nicely done, Frank. I like the light very much on this one but I think that I have a slight preference for the colour version (altered image #1) as we can see more details on the leaves as well as from the light. But don't get me wrong, this version is also very good (just a personal preference for the other one). Very nicely composed with the branch coming out of the frame and spreading on both side of the picture. Well done!
P.S. I noticed that you did not use your Frank's frame on this one and I would say that I agree with not framing this one. It works very well.
I will not question the quality of the picture, but discuss a matter of conception.
Perhaps it's just in my mind, but to have something hanging in a frame gives me a feeling of awkwardness. Maybe because we're used to see growing things from the bottom that it feels more comfortable...
I tried to turn the picture 180° and felt better about it. Odd, isn't it ? (am I not ? ;-) )
Having seen the alternative pictures, I agree with you that BW might be giving the best result.
A fine observation and useful study.
Hang in there Frank ;-)

Hi Frank,
For hand held it's still not bad! I prefer this version as it has a better dynamic range.
Lovely backlight lighting.
Well done

I like the light coming through the leaves Frank, it has a soft filtered effect. It also looks pretty sharp to me, so I don't think the lack of the tripod in this case is a big deal. In the WS I prefer the one stright from the camera, it has more depth than the flashlit one. I am looking forward to our trip to Europe next week and to taking my 350D out on it's first photographic expedition. I really haven't done any real photo shooting with it yet.
Cheers Joan
Thanks for your visit to my gallery.

Great contribution to the hunt Frank...I love the backlighting and it works very well in the B&W version of your picture.

Frank, I checked out both versions of this image, I can't decide which one I like better! True, the colour version shows more detail, however the b&w version is nicely detailed as well. If I had to choose one, I think I'd go with the b&w version simply because not only is it a great nature/macro shot, but the b&w helps to give the image a fine arts edge, which I really like. Great work, thanks for sharing! Best, Sam

Inspirerende foto.

Frank!
Well now, what is there to say; except, way to outdo them all!
1. Details, details... and MORE details. I love the fine little veins on the leaves (if they're called that!) and just everything, like the fuzzy stuff on the rabbit eared things... sigh I sound stupid, but I don't know what those things are called!
2. You cropped it just right, that is if you cropped. If you didn't then wow, you have quite the eye!
3. It's interesting seeing a photo like this because; everyday I walk home from school and there are various trees around, all with huge branches hanging above me, and I'll see these pretty leaves become opaque with the sunlight. And yet I have taken no such pictures!
4. And for the last bit, I at first; thought this was kind of silly converting it to b&w and then once I saw the workshops I realized this is much better. It just suits itself. Sigh, sounding stupid again! :P But it does!
Anyways, just a nice piece of work! And I can't believe it's taken me this long to comment on the picture.
Biance.
