[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This was taken during the classics race at Spa in September 2004 before the LMES (Le Mans Endurance Series) race. The classic cars are all former Le Mans 24 hour runners so it's great to see them all in one race.

I had some spare time while this race was on so I found a spot up on a bank between Blanchimont and Bus Stop (for anybody who knows the Spa circuit) that had a lot of trees. I set the camera in manual mode, shutter speed to 1/30, aperture to f/8 and manual focus, focused on the spot I wanted the shot then just panned with the car and tried to get the shot in the right place.

This wasn't great, but I found that by desaturating everything except the car it stood out a lot more.

I specifically wanted these shots for black and white, the classic cars through the trees. No idea what the car is or who the driver is, so any help appreciated.

Body was D2h, not D2x.

Beautiful color of the car, love the selective coloring here, well done!

Hi Adrian,
I am a huge fan of formula one and prototype races Le Mans being the race in that category. That kind of races made me dream all my teenager time. Your picture is beautiful because it reflected that particular type of race. Most of the times people like to show the car very clearly and you show actions. Wonderful! Bravo!

Great panning shot Adrian.
Desaturation and contrast work very effectively.
Well done.

Hi Adrain,
Top shot of a wonderful racing event. You have used good panning technique to freeze the car while maintaining the sense of speed. My only nit pick would be that the tree trunk is a little distracting. Easy said though as I know how hard it is to get the BG (or in this case the FG) clean and uncluttered in sport type shots.
Cheers
Paul

Excellent motion effect - your desaturation technique works perfectly here.

I apreciate very much that game of shadow and movement blur like a combo... That effect of speed is dynamic a lot! Workfull to recreate the speed impression!

Hi Adrian, I think this has worked out rather nicely. It's good when you manage to turn an image around as you allude to in your note. I think the presence of the OOF trees here actually improves it gives the feeling of being a spectator. Good shot!
