[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
As I had been quite busy preparing our house for the renovation works, it felt really good to take a little break and visit the magnificent vessels that had sailed the Tall Ships Race, as they anchored in Antwerp for a short while.

Despite the bad weather we had in August, that morning started off very promising. Again, what attracted me most here were the deeply saturated colours.

I had a difficult time cropping this one. In the workshop you can see the shot almost as it came out of the camera. Which version do you prefer ?

Tech talk

Croppity-crop, obviously.

Downsized for TL in 3 steps, USM 80 %, 0.4, 0.

Added a small white border by changing the canvas size.

Colour levels, brightness & saturation are what the camera captured.

Both. ;)

Excellent shot, well expose and composed. The workshop is slight right crop, would be a good balance between the two whatever they are, basket like structures. ;)
Anyway, nicely done.

Mike

hi Frank,
nice lines.. interesting subject.

Best regards, Daniel

I love this one, crisp and tight, the rich tones of the wood, all the rigging, well done, thanx, M, (*_*)

Hi Frank

Very nice complex shot. I like how you use the ropes to be the main subject into your composition. I think that the weather conditions was really fine. The lighting is excellent and the sharpness very fine too. Great job!

Dag Frank.. Deze valt op voor zijn
helderheid en dan al dat touwwerk...
Heel mooi!

Interesting shot with good framing and contrast. I like the intersection of the ropes that make a kind of texture. I like much more the workshop with the diagonal made by the “watching points”.

Hi Frank,
Always great the rigging of (Tall)ships. You show here veruy wel th ecomplexity of all the ropes. Nice and sharp with excellent contrasting colours. Well done my friend and TFS.
Hans

:) Later...

As promised...

Hi Frank,

Out of the two, I like this one better. There is a lot of detail in this photo as my eyes go from one rope to the other..lol..
Great lighting & contrast!

Constantinos

Strak mooi scherp
Mijn keus is niet moeilijk
geef mij de workshop maar
Het toond de complexiteit van toen
Machtig
Ruud

Hi Frank,

Lovely capture of details from the main mast and all the ropes. Very nice and symmetrical composition. Vivid colors and great lighting.
Yassou,
Vassilis

Hi Frank,
I prefer this crop with the graphism and the triangle form by the cable that lead our eyes. the colors and sharpness are excellent.
Cheers.

You've cropped it well Frank. All those ropes - what a nightmare if you pulled the wrong one!
Well composed, and showing only three colours - black, white and blue. The lighting emphasises the white ropes, well done,
Janice

The pictures are great. Difficul to chose between both of them.

:) later

Fantastic capture with superb details and compo. The sailboats are of amazing beauty....

Hugs!

Great detail full of complexity! It look too recent or i would ask... Where's the phantom of the Pirate? Hummm i presume he made a lot of money with his 2 films and now he buy that boat. Why not! :)
I enjoy the angle you crop!

Leuke foto Frank :
"samenwerking" van de lucht, hout en witte touwen geeft iets fris.
( zal wel zijn als je daarboven zit )
Ook mooi is dat " gordijntje " boven.
zeebonken hebben die een kinderkamer ? :-)
IK zie geen " jaggies " ( ja, als tot 300 uitvergroot )

Deze foto vind ik beter dan de workshop :
deze bevat alles en is dus al warrig genoeg.
( Ik bedoel het touwwerk ...)

Nice tight crop, Frank! It shows the intricacies of the structure very well. I am getting lost just looking at the image! Well done!

I love tall ships, and this is a nice shot of the rigging and mast. I do like the original though with the extended horizontal spars, and it is hard to choose between them, but I vote for the original.
Cheers Joan
Thanks for your visit to my photo and for your comments. I appreciate your visit.

Frank,
I enjoy the tight framing and textures here.
The blue sky realy brings out the white rigging. Good work,
Scott

yep sometimes you can easily feel you live like this.

Excellent capture!

Lovely composition, colour and detail.
Beautiful shot Frank.
Regards Mark

Hi Frank. I like to see sailing ships in general and you close up of the rigging shows how complicated it really must be to set up and run a ship like this. TFS. Murray.
