I took this one when we visited Remouchamps in the Ardennes in Belgium. We made a nice walk and came across some Mallard ducks, just minding there own business. This female looked right into my camera. So click......there she is!

Some facts about how they communicate:

The hen (female) mallard duck produces a quack, while the drake (male) produces a low grunt-whistle. The range of calls produced by a hen and drake mallard, as with most waterfowl, are somewhat limited. Often the same call is used in a variety of situations. For example, a simple hen mallard quack can communicate contentment, loneliness or danger.

The calls produced by mallard ducks can also be used to coordinate flight when preparing for migration, leaving the roost for feeding grounds or escaping potential life-threatening situations. Mallards will also give preflight calls to one another to signal their intent to change.

A nice image of the duck. The note you provided added some interest to the photo. Composition is nice. Good lighting. Some good detail. Focus looks a little soft on the breast. Good DOF. I do like ducks, thanks.

I like the low down pov and the good eye contact. Nice details and composition
