I guess it's about time to add another contribution to that (in)famous theme group on fire hydrants of the world. This is one outside the Berlaymont Building in Brussels, the headquarters of the European Commission, the fire brigade of European politics for the past 50 years. The building was evacuated ten years ago when they discovered asbestos in the walls and ceilings. It would have been cheaper to build a new building, but it was considered one of THE landmarks of Brussels and the symbol of European unity, so they spent a fortune and ten years renovating it. All 25 Commissioners (one from each Member State of the EU) now have their offices behind those windows. And as they no longer have asbestos to fireproof it - well, here's the fire protection.

Rotated, cropped, resized, one-step-fix and USM filter to bring out something in a photo taken on a typical grey day in Brussels.

Hello Per,
Nice idea of this colourful hydrant in the middle of the greyish Berlaymont.
When I worked at the Commission long time ago, I was at the Berlaymont everyday.
Nice memories of Brussels !!!

The building was expensive, that has been compensated for by these hydrants: the B symbol stands for Brussels, and outside Brussels it stands for Belgium/België/Belgique/Belgien ;o).
I like the angle very much Per, you emphasize the subject perfectly, though the curved wall of the building is a nice touch in the background. Well seen! TFS.

Very nice fire hydrant. I like the color and the background. Very good angle. Congratulation.

This contribution to a interesting theme is quite human with its arms, more than this its equipement is to on the front.
Very modern and the agle makes it humoristic.
I like it

Great idea Per...I love the bright red Hydrant, and the building makes a very nice background.
TFS.

Very good compo, and I really enjoy its colours' shame. We have a friend there working, so it was also good to see...
Somehow, it is strange that these hydrants are red. Shows that these are in case of fire, but when it comes, who can find the hydrants among the red flames :)
Thanks for sharing, Per, very clean composition!
Cheers,
Marcie

I see you have been busy looking for another fire hydrant. Here you show us a rather special one from the city. It seems to stand tall and proud in it's fire engine red colour, and willing and ready for a most important job. Amazing how these little pieces of equipment can actually help to save lives. I love the angle you chose for this one, esecially including so much of the grand building in the background.
Another great entry for our theme. I'm still looking for a 'rural' one. Every time my hubby takes for a ride in the car, I keep my eyes open and think of you Per. So far, they all seem to be the same style as the suburban ones.
Very good informative and interesting note.

Interesting looking fire hydrant, it doesn't look like the kind in the US.

In front of the building we love to hate... very well taken this hydrant ! Nice compo and great colors

Marleen

ps I've started to 'notice' fire hydrants now too - you know that outside Brussels they don't have the 'arms' ? Found a couple in my town and they only have the front side to hook up on, nothing on the sides whatsoever...

I have probably walk past this one a few times... Excellent note!

I like your 'OUT-OF-SPACE' shot Per! I'm kinda fond of hydrants, and this is a good shot with excellent colour contrasts, showing EU's reality! Tfs, Jay
