Thought I'd give Joan's challenge another go.

I had this idea when I posted the previous TL hybrid picture. I decided to use Dingo and my son Bert to create a centaur variant, and called it a Canicentaur ;o).

Tech talk

All work done in MS Digital Image Pro 10.

Took a printed photo (taken in 2003 I think), scanned it, and selected just Dingo and the hill he stood upon. Then copied that to the first layer of a new canvas, using feather 2.

Extracted Bert from a picture taken on the beach and copied this to a new layer, also using feather 2.

I adjusted Bert's position - and asked for his advice. This is what he approved. I had put him a bit lower originally...

Used the Transparency brush to blend his chest with Dingo's. Used different transparency settings, ranging from 100 % near the arm to about 10 % on the chest.

Used that brush on numerous locations, to reduce noise around the edges of the selections. Used a clone brush here and there for small touch ups.

Took yet another picture of a landscape in Lint which I took last year, and used that as the background. Needed croppity-crop here ;o).

Used Gaussian Blur 1 on the grass and 2.5 on the trees & sky to adjust the DoF.

Added FF - Frank's Framing LOL.

Needed a towel to wipe off the sweat...

Joan, thanks again for this theme.

:) you really did a great job Frank..it has now flaw for me..but best of all is your son's expression..you chose the best picture of him with that smile for this application :)...
thanks..

What a good one Frank. I hope Bert didn't mind being transformed into "Bingo" the canicentaur! I hope he thought it was a fun photo. You did an excellent job blending the chest into Dingo's fur, and he looks so happy standing on that hill. Thanks a lot for participating. I am enjoying seeing all these 'new' creatures.

Creepy but looks good, great work.

hi frank, very nice photo there...great photoshop works... and useful notes too.. tfs

It sharp assembled! The perspective work and the cut's are natural look on the sky. May i suggest? I will try a workshop... I will try to make the translation more natural between the body. But no false promises.. It's a hard transition! I like the way you choose the angle... A good mythologic work!

haha, great hybrid...your son looks so confident:) superb ps work....makes me think of all those old Greek tales and mythologies....hmm...well done, Frank!

Great pp work Frank. This is really amazing, so much work, but totally worth it.
Thanks for sharing all your expertise.
Liz

This is absolutely fantastic. I saw this photo yesterday, but since I no longer had points I've left my critique for later :-) Not only your idea is super original! Who would have thought that Dingo would make such a fantastic centaur!! Your pp work is perfect too. The photos are so well glued, I am impressed! There's also the choice of your son's photo, which was great, because it looks like he's aware of what you were going to do with him :-)))))
Great work and a great sense of humour too. Very well done.

Great fun ! And it's a strong shot, the way Dingo is standing on a hill looking over the fields and then Bert created in it, well done, Frank !

Very well executed pp work Frank. Nice centaur. Well done.

Peter

:))) and :))) this is one of the most classic great humour I ever seen. The composition of course is excellent and the work very precise one.
Thanks for the note and so.
Jean Michel

I just read your note and am smiling at the towel bit :)
This is so funny, Dingo and Bert. You have done a fantastic job on blending all three photos. I like the variations in the blur for the depth of field. Good thinking. Berts face is what makes this. His expression fits perfectly. What a handsome young man. Great job.

Most excellent good composition, well detailed and executed.

lol :D very funny,frank!
excelent pp, almoust believe it's real!

That's funny, excelent creation and well done on the work and composition. LOL.

LOL Frank Frank....what will you think of next, this looks like some mythical figure mmm? Excellent PS work, you'r really getting good at this 'frankenstein-stuff' (smile)
EXELLENT idea EXCELLENT composition, very well done!

:-)
I would have given him a bow in his hand, or a waterpistol :-) and some hair on his chest :-)
Very good creation Frank. Seeing the endresult, one cannot imagine the work that gets into the production.
When pasting cutouts there's always the danger that the edges are too sharp (thus showing that it indeed is a pasted image). While the cutout is selected you can use the "doezelaar" (don't know the english term used in PS, according to the dictionary it's "stump"...) to soften edges by a few pixels, which can make all the difference.

Good work again. I wonder if your son has shown his friends the link to this? Well, he should because I am sure they already know he has a crazy father. I hope this theme is still alive next weekend for the rest of us to contribute.
