[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Taken during the TL-meet in Bruges (Brugge), on a boatride on the canals (Reien).

It was a very nice day, one of the very few we've had this so-called summer in the Low Lands...

Ann & I say "Thanks!" to John, his wife Yolanda and his brother-in-law Pepe, Hans, Vassilis and his wife Tanya, Vandana and Fons and his wife Lientje for making this a very special day.

And thanks to TL for creating international friendships through a mutual hobby: photography!
We're looking forward to meeting you again this week-end...

In the workshop: a group photo taken near the world famous Beguinage.

Tech talk

When I noticed the strong backlight I wanted to capture this building in silhouette only.
Unfortunately time was very limited as our boat was turning fast and I couldn't reset the partial metering to average.

So in PS I used levels to add more contrast and take away some more light.

Some perspective correction.

Downsized in steps as per usual.

Hi Frank, This is a hard photo to take with such variant in light.. I do feel the buildings are a tad to dark, and perhaps not a lot of light on the water, making it a bit flat, but read your info, with regard to limited time.

But what a wonderful sharp and colourful photo in the workshop.. best one I have seen of the TL group photos.. Well done, dont you all like great!!..bet you had a very enjoyable time...I feel you should have put the workshop photo in the gallery! :-)

Kind regards
Dawn

Hey Frank
Heb Burge lang geleden in mijn hart gesloten.
Als ik toen der tijd met deze foto thuis was gekomen had ik hem als mislukt beschouwd.
Nu weet ik beter en zie dat je met contouren krachtige afbeeldingen kunt maken.

Hi Frank
Yes .. sitting in a canalboat together .. we all quickly end up with the same photo's *__*
This one works fine as a contrasting silhouette on this Church

Hoi Frank,
Dit knettert er lekker uit mijn vriend! Excellent contrastful picture. Even the harsh direct sunlight didn't spoil the image. The silhouette of the city of Brugge is razor sharp and the reflection o the water makes it even more attractive. Job well done Frank, nex time a nice frame, OK? :-)
Hans

:) Later...

Sounds like you had a great time Frank, love the silhouettes here, pp has worked well. Portrait mode works well with the subject. Some might suggest that the subject is a little central, but of course I'm not one of them :-)

Peter

Hello Frank,

Beautiful photo, and wonderful taken against the light.
The sun with rays and reflections of light in water caught nicely.

It was great pleasure to meet you and Ann. You are wonderful couple :) BTW, youll get music CDs from John, and after I come back to US will sedn few more. The website I asked you to look at www.munnarweb.com.

Bye for now,
Vandana

Superb composition, and delightfully unusual. I love the effect of sun and shadow here

Hello Frank,

Wonderful memories we shared together while visiting both Holland and Belgium. We appreciate the effort made by you and your lovely wife Ann to be with us and make us feel welcome. Impressive photo , with the tower captured as a silhouette, with a dramatic visual impact. Great POV and mood

We thank both of you,
Greetings,
Vassilis-Tanya
