Lukie already showed this canal several times, but there are more adorers of this scenic route ;-) (Groeten Luc)

I walked along this canal on a beautiful februari day, until the sun disappeared (my favourite time of day).

The still water reflected the line of trees perfectly, while the empty space further on allowed the sky colours to peek through the still empty branches.

The row of trees in the distance is another canal which will run parallel to this one a few hundred meters westwards. The official name of that canal is "Leopoldkanaal", this one here is the "afleidingskanaal", but the pair has been known for long as the "blinker" (shiny/clean) and the "stinker" (that's clear, isn't it ? ;-) ). The latter had quite an odeur because it was meant to carry the waste water of the river Leie to drain in the sea (which isn't far away). The water was - at the time - polluted because of the popular flax-industry along the Leie. Flax was in high demand for the manufacturing of quality linnen.

Original picture, just cropped for TL.

Here's an image that not deny Jacques Brel.

A classic illustration but very well done, with a beautiful light.

Dag Walter,

surprise ! Eens iemand anders die mijn geliefde kanaal in beeld brengt... No bad feelings, maar ik vind hem persoonlijk iets te donker (maar ja, de zon was al weg en het is ook een kwestie van smaak). Hij is wel goed scherp.

groeten,

Luc.

I like the photo and the fact it is orginal. I also like the educational information you provided.

Hi Walter,

A beautiful scenery here, I like the rolls and rolls of trees... great "silhouette", reflection and details, I like the lighting and composition too. It doesn't matter how many time it get show, the feeling when you look at it is always different, :D

Have a great weekend,

Cheers,
Sweety

Hello Walter

Beautiful visual, I like profiled dry trees near some the other ones, forming a great wall.
Maybe it would be a protection!
But I like as much of the front row as the one of the deep.
Beautiful reflexes and tones slightly rose in his horizon.
congratulations

Sérgio
