A happy and prosperous year to all you TrekLensians.
The city councel of Antwerp decided on having this ferris wheel installed at the edge of the river Scheldt to enhance the festive xmas mood.
Apparantly, this 60 meter high "Roue the Paris" was first erected in Paris on the occassion of the 2000 millenium celebration. It later served in Birmingham, Manchester, Amsterdam, Newcastle and Bangkok.
Instead of a capture of the whole wheel (which I also have) I definitely liked this shot better, showing just the rim of the wheel with a few cars dangling from it. The ancient lantern (now electric, in bygone days powered by gas) is part of the southern walking terrace along the river, immensely popular by both locals and tourists. The combination of these elements adds to the mood of the picture, a kind of old fashioned warm cosiness.
Original picture except for a slight "curving" in PS to brighten up a bit and the addition of text. |
