The soft focus and the sepia really lend this image a timeless feel.

What does it look like without the soft focus? I like to see sharpness around the eyes... the eyes have soul..! Great composition and use of B&W - is that a hint of colour toning in there? Perhaps a little levels adjustment would give the picture a little more punch.
