A few days in Bulgaria.. What a beautiful country it is too!! These are the ruins of 'Perperikon' where I believe Alexander the Great once camped out for a while. This is the watchtower at the top of the hill - stunning views of the Bulgarian countryside all around.

A single RAW shot - 3 exposures from that and made as an HDR shot. This was not the easiest light to work with. The side of the tower you see was in deep shadow whilst the sun was reflecting blindingly of the surrounding stonework.

10mm focal length, 1/45sec at f7.1, ISO100 and +1.0EV

Hello David,

You have worked well with difficult lighting conditions. There is no oe on the light-coloured stones.
A well composed shot with the angled wall from the focal point leading firmly to the rest of the shot.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi David,
Beautiful view from this point, you really managed to choose a great POV. I like the sharp ruins in the foreground and the calm and peaceful hilly landscape in the background, fine way of composition. Clarity is excllent and you handled harsh sunlight perfectly. Good HDR processing, TFS!
Greetings,
Kristof

Best regards from Jan

So this is where you've been hiding out :) A very interesting place! I've learnt far more from the Trek sites than I ever learnt in Social Studies class!!! You've done a very nice job on this, this lighting looks good. Nice composition and detail. TFS

Wow, your usual stunningly beautiful colors and depth. The light was harsh, as you said. ..there seem to be a few bright spots on the rocks, bottom left. Still, a beauty!
Looks like a great unspoiled landscape. Very interesting old ruins.

David,

The air looks so clean and clear in the photo. Gorgeous blue sky to compliment the ruins. Your post processing work is absolutely amazing! Terrific. You've got the lighting just right on the stones. Nice composition that draws the viewer into the photo.

Enjoy your day, Lisa

Hi David,
A fine combination of p-processing and filter ( polarizer ) i know how difficult it is to meter a scene like this , the stones acting like mirrors in the blinding sun , still you've pulled that one off very well , the part of the tower in the shade shows good details .Well a good exercise in light and shadows, how is Bulgaria? Great place, right !
TFS my friend,
Carol

What a great photo; very well adjusted lighting and I love the composition.

Olá, David!

Hi David,
An excellent view, crisp and superb clarity. Composition is spot on and so is the sharpness. (I don't observe any oversharpening) Indeed as you show here Bulgaria is beautiful, no doubt after seeing this image!

Wow David, great view from this watchtower, no doubt of why it was built there. Excellent pov and composition - I like the detail that can be seen in the rocks in the foreground and the slight haze over the far background. Good use of HDR!

Reed
