National Park Central Balkan is among the World's temples of wild nature. It is one of the widest and most precious protected European territories, created to conserve forever the unique natural scenery and heritage of the Middle Stara Planina Mountain area and to preserve the customs and livelihood of the local population.
The conservation of the National Park is a policy of the State and is also an essential contribution to the building of the European ecological network. Nine rigorous Natural reserves - Boatin, Tsarichina, Kozya Stena, Steneto, Severen Djendem, Peeshti Skali, Sokolna, Djendema and Stara Reka, take up one third of the Park's territory.
The Park and eight of its Natural reserves are on the UN List of Representative Protected Areas, and four of its Natural reserves are included in the World Biosphere Reserves Network under the UNESCO 'Man and Biosphere' Program. It is also included in the list of the important from ornithological point of view places of BirdLife International and is part of the CORINE Biotopes program by the EU. Since 2003 National Park Central Balkan is a certified member of the European Network of protected territories - PAN Parks, with an International recognition of the qualities of the Bulgarian wild nature and the management measures for its preservation.
With its activity the of the Management Board of the Park strives not only to protect and maintain the biological diversity of the wild nature but also to systematically take care of and multiply the opportunities for scientific and educative activities within the protected area, to create better conditions for the development of a sustainable tourism as an ecologically appropriate livelihood in the region.
For that reason the Management Board of the National Park has made possible the collecting of rich text information and picture material concerning the natural landmarks, tourist sites, attractions, itineraries and services within the Park and the area around it. Hoping that it would really contribute to the development of a sustainable tourism in the region, National Park Central Balkan is providing all this information to the World Network so that it is in everyone's favor.
