The Stone Gate
This gate known as either the Stone Gate or the Land Gate as there was in its construction a drawbridge crossing the moat which in the course of the 18th century was widened into a canal running between the city walls. This Gate, constructed by the architect Michele Sanmicheli of Verona in 1543, is considered to be the most beautiful architectural monument of the Renaissance period in Dalmatia.
Porta Terraferma
Una delle entrate della città chiamata Porta Terraferma perché in origine un ponte levatoio, sotto il quale si trovava un fossato, portava alla porta. Al posto di questo, nel XVIII secolo, fu scavato un canale tra le muraglie. La Porta Terraferma è considerata il più bel monumento rinascimentale in tutta la Dalmazia, fu eretta nel 1543 dal noto architetto veronese Michele Sanmicheli.
La porte en Pierre
On l'appelle aussi la Porte continentale (ou Porte de terre ferme) parce que on l'a rapprochée à travers le pont-levis qui se trouva au-dessus du fossé, où on creusa un canal entre les remparts au XVIIIe siècle. On considère la Porte de pierre d'être le monument le plus beau de renaissance en Dalmatie. Elle a été bâtie en 1543 par le fameux architecte de Vérone Michele Sanmicheli.
Steintor
Das Tor wird auch noch Landtor genannt, da man es während der ersten Zeit über eine bewegliche Brücke erreichte, die sich über einem Graben befand, in den man im 18.Jahrhundert einen Kanal grub. Das Steintor bezeichnet man heutzutage als schönstes Renaissancedenkmal in Dalmatien. Es wurde 1543 von Michele Sanmicheli, den bekannten Architekten aus Verona gebaut.
Kamena vrata
Nazivaju se još i Kopnena vrata jer se u prvo vrijeme do njih dolazilo preko pokretnog mosta koji se nalazio iznad jarka kojem je u XVIII. stoljeću prokopan kanal među bedemima. Kamena vrata u lučici Foša smatraju se najljepšim renesansnim spomenikom u Dalmaciji. Izgradio ih je 1543. godine poznati arhitekt iz Verone Michele Sanmicheli. |

hello bernard, i really like the history behind this photo you've shared with us. but i think the main subject in this photo is being to distracted by other things( boats, stairs). the wall adds some depth to the photo but id like to see the significance of this gate realy shown.
