Just for fun...with a remote control, an extension cable and some post processing with layers in Photoshop this is an alternative to common family portaits.
You just have to control the exposure, which is easily done using the RAW format.
Go ahead...and clone...! |

But... I think some of "you and your son"'s have weird "edges".
Which technique did you use?
I often use the selection tool and select more space outside the person and use a large feather-value before cutting the "outside"-region.
Don't know if this technique would yield a good result due to the mirror-movement when taking the photo's.
I would really like to see the image where you are standing closest to the house (on the terrace) to see the comparison of the "edge".
Maybe it's the sun causing this.
