This old souvenir of Canada, was on sale at one of Roskildes Market Stalls, this morning.
I have know idea what period it is from, but it does not appear to be modern?

Hi Michael - not sure of the size, but this looks like a soap stone craving, which are fairly common, especially noting it has Canada craved at the top. Was there any markings on the back?

Hmmm, where did I put my kayiak,

It's a representation of an Inuit (aboriginal people of Canada's north) in it's kayiak, (they invented thoses)the background are a depictation of glacier, or even iceburgs. The Inuit people still occupied those territories, their way of life has changed since, they now have snow-mobile, and power engine boat. It's a very recent change, back to the beginning of the past century (1900) up to the fifty's that was still a way of life for those people, it was the time, their home still made of snow (igloo), their life were surelly harder at those time....Althought even today, the nordic part, is not the most hopitalious place to live...still.)))))

As for the shot, it's been handled pretty well, highlight are not burned, and reveal details. The use of fill flash, could have open up the shadow areas, but I understand, camera attach flash, are a pain to use, offering little control over them.
