Probably both. The city used to belong to both countries. So, there are hundreds and hundreds houses like this one in Strasbourg. The French city with lots of German history, architecture, commons, habits, ... and yes! language.

George,

I've been in Strasbourg, and I must say that you have captured the soul of the city, which seems to be more German than French, no matter where the border is. Buildings like this Fachwerkhaus are everywhere in Germany, and it's what many people believe to be the very picture of German architecture. Congratulations on a job well done.
