Seats

An artistic impression and experiment together.

Just to know how you think as critical TL viewer; is this a posting worthy or is it garbage?

Well I took this picture in the Cathedral of Rouen. I saw some nice aspects in the rows of empty seats. The image is focused on the fourth row and the existing light an aperture of f/2.8 was needed to get enough light. So the front and rear rows are slightly blurred, which gives a certain feeling of depth which I personally like. The slow shutter speed made it not easy to prevent motion blur in this shot.

Well not much to tell more about this image. One more thing what I learned with my digital SLR camera; ‘playing’ with light is a very intrigue and interesting thing. In side the cathedral I took about eighty pictures of all different objects and with different light I should have taken 180 shots...

Take care my TL-friends and have a great Sunday!

Something different from you Hans, but very impressive! You made good use of the shallow depth of field and you metered it well too - and you did a great job to avoid the motion blur!

Very pleasing image.

De geest van de tijd..weinig kerkgangers !

Hi Hans:
At 28mm with F2.8, an exceptiona quality of impression!!!
Now, I am presuminmg that this was on a tripod.Back in my 'film days' in manual settings to take advantage of ambient light, we did experiment on slower shotter speed (when on trypod for still objects) to allow the light to say LONGER in time to catch all the 'dents & bends' as we called them. Meaning to say you get more details. I think it works the same way on Digital cameras to a larg extend.
So I would perhaps go on a slower shutter speed, but that is why you and not me:)
I really like the abstarct imagery idea here, and your color sceme is wonderful.
The problem is that in these absract images we cant realy say much because it is an artwork and it true to what is dispalyed.
Have fun my friend!!
David

hello Hans,
great motif/pattern, shapes, repetition and detail.
I like the monochromatic feel :)
Garbage.. ?? No.
In my view anyway.
It's a fine capture.
Good composition - one thing that I can see really helps it here and keeps the composition tight and 'together' is the nice crop that has kept any wall or feature at the back well out of the frame!

Also the light visibly coming from the right adds a lovely touch.

Well done !
Best regards, Daniel

Oh course this is worthy dear Hans, and its certainly not garbage!.. I love photos like this, it shows you have an eye for photography of this nature. Some (like my partner) would wonder why I took a photo of something like this.. they just cant see the art in it.. lucky some of us can.

Good capture of lines, shapes and repetition here Hans.

Enjoy your sunday... ours is nearly over..and another storm hits us.

Hello Hans,

What I notice the most attractive in this image is the selection of subject, which is unique. Secondly, focus on the 4th row and its placement which is in the middle of upper 1/3rd portion is interesting. Nice presentation in strong border. An excellent shot my friend, well done.

Thanks for sharing this picture.

Seats and seats - did you take any photos of them from an angle? That should look good. And then, with the seats covered with humans 'seats' would look even better!!
Sunday is over in 2 hours 25 minutes down under, and another storm is on the way. . . but you have a good day!
Janice

Hoi Hans,
groeten,
Joop!

Hi Hans
A great abstract from you. Lovely detail and great use of DOF. good creative use of framing as well. It is always good to surprise and try different ways of presenting images. I look forward to seeing more of these creative images from you.
Take care en Groetjes

Hallo Hans
Mooie comp. in een mooie kleur en goede lijnwerking.

Hi Hans,

Wooden chairs are rarely to see in the modern building. And it's unusual composition with a shorter seat in front of the main seat, is it for foot rest or other person to seat? Very impressive shot my friend.

Hi Hans
Cool. I like this take. I have the similar photograph but a bit different chairs. Perhaps tomorrow I will demonstrate on TL.

Of course it's worthy of posting!! You have an artistic eye! Artists are always looking for patterns! This is a very nice one! Nice exposure and tones! Very pleasing to the eye!

I think it's a real challenge to try a picture like this Hans... First of all because it can be quite difficult to get the right result and in this case especially because of the light in the first few rows and the shadow on the back rows...
Another thing is, the isle on the top left corner and the marble pilars showing on the upper right.
I think you have given yourself a very difficult taks here Hans, yet you did a very nice job at it.

Great colors, nice light and a good compo!

;-)
Cheers,
Anneke

hi there, i like this shot, good repetion and has an abstract feel, if i was to be really picky perhaps the composition could be a bit better as i dont like when my eye travells to the centre of an image, could of maybe done something a little different there and maybe some creative depth of field too, none the less still an interestiong image
thanks scott

Hi Hans,
impressive shot, I love the crop and the warm light, a beautiful motive, thanks

Hi Hans
Chairs – chairs – it looks a bit different than planes, but on the other hand, its interesting, the COMP is great, so all in all its good – and deserve some words. Well done my friend and TFS.

Hi Hans,
A very different subject here! But nicely done! On the thumbnail, this photo looks like an nice abstraction.
I like the way you took for show us the depth and beautiful light. There is a great artistic sense in this image. Not need of plane to fly high. With your camera, the sky
isn't the limit for you! :) Bravo! Annie

Hi HAns :o)
Cathedral of Rouen ! Yep ! You captured so well all these chairs :o) Nice golden colours lightened by sunrays, good ! TFS

Hi Hans,

I certainly think this is worth posting! Playing with the light is just great. I see what you mean with that you easily could have taken another 100 shots.
I do not think that the row to the left is disturbing; It breaks the picture a bit. I would have taken it with the row in it as well.

Greetings!
Dennis

Hello Hans,

Hallo Hans,
yes who would have thought that chairs can be so artistic. Love the POV and the tight crop, putting them into the bold frame does add to the artistic impression.

Very interesting shot my dear friend Hans:):):)
Is unusual and that makes this image special and unique.
Very good play with light and cropping is excellent. It makes me imagine that is empty as it is or full of people.
Well done - Tom
