A small trip in Rouen, the city of the 100 bell towers !

The cathedral Notre Dame of Rouen is the most prestigious monument of the city. It is the seat of the archdiocese of Rouen, administrative centre of the ecclesiastical province of Normandy.

It is a construction of Gothic architecture whose first stones go back to the Early Middle Ages.
It has the rare point in France, to preserve its archiepiscopal palace and the surrounding secondary constructions dating the same period.

One of its most remarkable elements is its western facade, framed by two dissimilar towers: the Saint Romain tower and the Butter tower (this last one, is a real masterpiece of the blazing Gothic !).

The western facade inspired, in the XIXth century, numerous artists and, more particularly, Claude Monet.

As most of the Norman cathedrals, this one possesses, between the transept, a 'tower-lantern', surmounted by an arrow in cast iron, built from 1825 till 1876 which peaks as high as 151 metres. It is the highest of France, and it was the highest building of the world at the time of its completion.

Here is the principal 'nef' (I don't know how to translate !!!). Enormous ! I will present you other perspectives later in my next publications.
Thanks all for your visit and comment :)
Have a nice evening, night, day .....
Marylou ;)

Hi Maryline,
This is a nice capture of the cathedral. The detail is incredible and the POV is wonderful. You managed to really control the light in a good way. It looks like the walls are leaning a little. Still a great shot. Nice work.
Regards,
Kevin

Salut Marylou
Superbe.
Amicalement
Antoine
