Every time I get to the sea-shore, or everywhere else where those gulls have lots of space to fly around, I'm amazed by their flying abilities. They have truly developed an aerodynamical perfection that allows them to perform acrobatics any jet pilot would be jealous of, but also lets them ride the wind and remain airborne with a minimal use of energy.

We had some need for a break and drove out to the north of France for a couple of days. This picture was taken at our first stop at Cap Blanc Nez, a little bit to the west of Calais. Lots of gulls around, the white cliffs (like the ones on the other side of the Channel in Dover) provide nice nesting opportunities - see workshop.

Tech talk

Levels - it was a sunny but very hazy day and colours were a bit flat, even with the polarisation filter, so I boosted the contrast a bit.

Cropped.

Downsized as per usual.

Lovely crisp capture.

Nicely balance image too.

TFS regards Helen

Hello Frank,
Nice, clear and sharp photo, but a bit boring for me.
I tried to make some changes on it, let's see it in the ws!
TFS!
Best wishes,
Marci

Hi Frank,
Nice sharp image, I like the position of the bird in the shot.
Tfs Andy

i like this simple photo frank :)

I love taking seagull shots too Frank - and I have 1,000,000's living around here to pick from.
This composition is good, the bird is well proportioned to the sky BG. And even the shape of the bird shows that it has its eye on a bit of food and he's heading straight for it.
Well done,
Janice
I hope Dingo got to run and play on the sand and swim in the water.

Hey that's cool! In a montage a really well see it could have a crazy shape for a pair of eyebrows...
Ans as i see in the workshop the rock formation... I see a basic human profile of a face :)
Thats great angle to show the aerodynamics it's true!

Hi Frank. Very good composition and great details of the bird. I would like this picture more with the blue sky. TFS.
Wojciech

Very good action shot of the seagull flying in the air. Good placement of it in the composition. Thanks for the nest picture too.

Yassou Frank,

So simple but so beautiful, you have captured the graceful flight of the seagull very well. The sky provides a good contrast and your composition is excellent.
Well done!
TFS,
Vassilis

Hi Frank

This gull in particular is very streamlined in its "design!" You captured it very well and positioned just right in the frame.

Well done
Constantinos

Geen misse foto Frank.
Alleen aan de keuze van de achtergrond moet ik nog gewoon worden.
Wat is die achtergrond feitelijk ?

Hi Frank

The sense of freedom is excellent. TFS this beautiful photo!

Hello Frank, another nice seagull shot. Did you saw the shot of seagulls from JohnTulip?

Nicely captured and perfect timing for the motion of the bird. TFS

Il pique bien ce Tamron !!! Il y a cepandant une impression de bruit, est ce dû à la compression de la photo. Belle vue et très bon cadrage.

Beautiful angle and composition but why the background is gray instead of blue? Congratulations.
