The Abbey of Silvacane is most recent of the three cistercians abbeys of Provence, it is towards 1144 that the monastery was founded in a site then desolated and marshy. It is that place which gave its name to the monastery Silva Cana: forest of reeds. Just like its two sisters Thoronet (Var) and Sénanque (in Gordes) it offer an architecture in perfect harmony with the rules preached by St Benoit and the order of Cîteau: simple-austere, rigorous, functional and stripped of all the ornaments which can divert the monk of its prayer.

He gets clear thus a singular atmosphere, a total serenity, between shade and sun, within a framework bucolic and in calms absolute, far from crowd.

The beauty of the Abbey of Silvacane also results from the strength of volumes, of the harmony of the forms, the perfection of the equipment of the stones and the plays of light through rare openings.

Its sculptures are famous the best of the order cistercian, they remain however in the sober register of the plant and reduced to essence.

Since its repurchase by the State in 1846, the abbey of Silvacane is restored little by little by the architects of the historic buildings.
It accomodates each year some prestigious concerts of famous Festival of Piano of the Castling of Anthéron like those of Vocal Music with Silvacane and of the International Festival of String quartets of Luberon

There is a room in this abbey which sounds absolutly great ! (hugest reverb i've ever heard)

Bonsoir Jonathan
Un très bon choix d'exposition qui expose bien l'extérieur et laisse passer de belle façon la lumière par ces ouvertures avec les teintes de l'extérieur.J'aime.
Bonne soirée
Amicalement

Really wonderful architectural shot, Jonathan. I really like how each arched opening features a slightly different quality of natural light. Great POV and perspective. Well done.

Beautiful light and sharp details, and an amazing place. This age of building is beyond me - coming from a country still less than two hundred years old.

Amazing work

Hi Jonathan

Nice POV and composition here. You handled the strong light and the dark shadows very well here.

Bonjour Jo,
Tu as bien su capter la lumière dans ce cloître - je me demande si tu as dû beaucoup travailler la photo ou bien si tu as mesuré très correctement la lumière avec ton appareil...
Très beau et serein,
Compliments,
Cath.

This shot vaguely reminds me of your "reptition" shot. Very interesting I like the simple artistic view of the picture. TFS.
