The Citadel of Blaye

The citadel of Blaye is, in fact, a town that is one kilometre long, with a small population, which keeps it alive whilst still retaining its tranquillity.

You can get a feel of the town by strolling through the streets and you will get a full appreciation of its position, overlooking the Gironde, by walking around the walls.

Porte Royale and Porte Dauphine

Porte Royale is the main entrance designed by Vauban and is situated on the east side of the citadel. You can take your car into the citadel through this entrance.

Alternatively, if you leave your car outside the citadel, you can enter on foot, generally by the Porte Dauphine.

Climb the stairs to reach the Clock Tower (Tour de l'Horloge), then walk along the top of the walls to enjoy a panoramic view of the town of Blaye and the estuary of the Gironde.

La citadelle de Blaye est en fait une petite ville d'un kilomètre de long, en partie habitée, ce qui lui conserve un côté vivant, mais serein.

On la découvre en flânant dans les rues et on prend toute la mesure de son site dominant la Gironde en faisant le tour des remparts.

La Porte Royale et la Porte Dauphine

La Porte Royale est l’entrée principale conçue par Vauban, elle s'ouvre à l'est de la citadelle et permet l'accès en voiture à l'intérieur de la citadelle.

Si on a laissé la voiture à l'extérieur, on pénètre à pied généralement par la Porte Dauphine.

Des escaliers permettent d’accéder à la Tour de l’Horloge puis au sommet des remparts d'où on a une vue panoramique sur la ville de Blaye et l'estuaire de la Gironde.

Hello Pim,
Une bien belle carte postale, avec un beau montage de photographies. J'aime beaucoup les deux perceptives entre les murs des remparts.
La citadelle n'aurait pas été bâtie par Vauban, j'ai bien l'impression d'en reconnaitre le style si particulier. Il faut dire que par ici, ses édifices ne manquent pas et sont toujours en excellent état malgré les siècles.
Agréable retour dans l'histoire, merci.

Hoi Pim,
Top 'aanzichtskaart' prachtige plaatjes echten een fotoboekje met één pagina! Foto's zijn prachtig lekker scherp en met dezelfde interessante wolkenlucht. Nu nog de postzegel er tegenaan en hop we hebben TNT weer voor 44 euricent te pakken :)

Stuk voor stuk verdienen die foto's wel een kaart voor zich alleen. Combinatie stijlvol. Denk ik hoe doet-ie-dat nou, zo'n collage maken en dan nog de foto's scherp houden!
