Le Pavillon Renaissance
Brantome
C'est un village de carte postale sans rien pour détruire la magie du lieu. On dirait qu'ici, le temps s'est arrêté. C'est d'abord un site, une falaise en croissant surmonté d'un écrin boisé au pied de laquelle s'élève son abbaye et se love sa rivière, la Dronne, qui entoure la cité médiévale. La Venise du Périgord est une île.
L'Abbaye fut fondée par Charlemagne au début du IX ième siècle. Si l'église a subi quelques transformations au cours des siècles, son clocher (XI ième siècle) est certainement le plus ancien campanile de France. Il a, en effet, la particularité d'être bâti non sur l'église mais sur le surplomb rocheux qui la domine.
Il faut se rendre derrière l'Abbaye où se trouvent les vestiges du premier monastère aménagé dans le pied de la falaise avec notamment la grotte du "Jugement Dernier", énigmatique bas relief du XV ième siècle, cheminement historique qui s'effectue à l'aide d'un livret guide et de panneaux disséminés le long de ce circuit très facile de 600 mètres environ. Tout au bout du parcours troglodytique d'une dizaine de cavités, vous arriverez à la pisciculture. Si vous êtes pêcheurs, sachez que la Dronne frétille de truites et elle est alimentée régulièrement par cet élevage.
Juste après le Pavillon Renaissance, ancienne défense sud de l'abbaye et du château abbatial qui abrite un atelier de peintre, se trouve le Moulin de l'Abbaye, converti en un adorable hôtel sur le bord de la Dronne.

It is a village of postcard without anything to destroy the magic of the place. It would be said that here, time stopped. It is necessary to go behind the Abbey where are the vestiges of the first monastery arranged in the foot of cliff with in particular the cave of the "Last Judgement", enigmatic low XV ième century relief, historical advance which is carried out using a booklet guides and of panels disseminated along this very easy circuit of approximately 600 meters. All at the end of the course troglodytic of ten cavities, you will arrive at pisciculture. If you are fishing, will know that Dronne frétille trouts and it is fed regularly by this breeding. Just after le Pavillon Renaissance, old southern defense of the abbey and the abbey castle which shelters a workshop of painter, is the Mill of the Abbey, converted into an adorable hotel on the edge of Dronne. |
