With nearly 27 million tons produced each year throughout the world, the melon is one of the most appreciated fruits consumers.

Here a Charente-native half-melon its bark is reconvert kind of lattice, which contains in a pale green bark, an orange and sweetened pulpit. This year, with the air of a very good year because it already is very sweetened. One regales oneself some, believe me.

Benefits of melon: the high content in water of the melon (88%) associated a remarkable high content in potassium (300 mg/100 G) make of him a fruit particularly diuretic. The melon posts a content carotene (very significant provitamin A): 100 G of melon east bring 2mg is half of our advised daily needs. Carotene changes in the organization into Vitamin A, vitamin which plays an important part in the vision, the good state of the skin and the mucous membranes. And especially Carotene posséde an important antioxydant capacity. The some either color of melon, is also an important source of vitamin C, 100 G brings 25mg from there or one the third of the advised daily needs.

India or Iran? The melon would come from the one of these two countries, but it is in Egypt that it was cultivated, 2500 years ago. Introduced into our country in XVe century, its grounds of predilections are today those of the South-east and the South-west of France. According to seasons', it is cultivated there in greenhouse, under plastic tunnel, cover or in full field. The botanists listed some more than 200 varieties, classified by group.

In entry, one can serve it with fine sections of dry ham (Parma, Bayonne, serrano...), meat of b?uf dried (of the Grisons inter alia), even presented out of skewers, by alternating melon balls and ham thin straps.

In making delicious jams, an alternative where many associations are possible (honey, anise, almonds...).

To choose mine, I look at if it's a female - trace of one flower at the base and if the tail is detached from melon. It's my personal trick which I apply only to melon ;=)).

Hummmmmmm tu me mets l'eau à la bouche !!! LOL)
