Dyeing was also extracted from the hulls and the petals of sunflower: facial paintings were made containing dried petals and of pollen. The oil extracted the ground seeds provides much oil for the kitchen and the treatment of hair. There were also therapeutic uses as removal warts, the treatment of the punctures of snake or the treatment of the sunstrokes.

The sunflower is one of four harvests of native total importance of the United States (the three others are the whortleberry, the cranberry, and pecan).
The Amerindians have used the wild sunflower for food and medicine for 8,000 years. The archaeological one suggests that they started to cultivate and improve the sunflower as of 2300 front. J.-C. Thus, the culture of sunflower began before the culture from the "Three Sisters" - corn, beans and marrow.

The seeds of sunflower were generally roasted. Melted, they are an ingredient for cooking or are used to thicken soups and. Compressed in pellets as the peanut butter (seed-ball), the butter of sunflower constitutes a convenient food during the voyages. The roast hulls of sunflower can be put in ebullient water to make a drink like coffee.

When the colonists and the explorers have starts to send the seeds of Sunflower of the New World towards Europe, the sunflower was regards as a curiosity and a decorative flower. It wasn't used as edible until it reaches Russia.

The Orthodoxe church authorized the use of the sunflower during the Lent, and the Russians adopted it as a source of oil which could be eaten without enfreindre the laws of the church. They also appreciated the sunflower like cut-hunger and 50 years before the others, they cultivated the sunflower for its contents raised out of oil and its resistance to the diseases.

Although that too is not with my taste, I have for this photography, to make a PP work, indeed if I had taken this one, the evening, there was much noise which I did not succeed in to withdraw, then finally I took the "magnetic lasso", then to surround this sunflower and put a black background. Addition of two small lines within the framework, plus the signing and the title.

My dearest Cokky :-)
What a sunny surprise! What a colourful gift of you here on TL! This is absolutely superb; colours, sharpness, contrast and composition it is all spot on. The presentation in the large black frame is superb I would only have chosento put the 'signature' inside the frame in stead of inside the picture. Nevertheless: I'm happily impressed!
Big hug from the Baron!
