I made some relevant changes.
I eliminated the window, put a frame, slight crop on the right and worked a bit on colours.
Not sure about a real improvement compare with the original...

ah- good balance. the upper left flash bounce is too harsh for me. I love the colors, the old wood and the natural light bthing the stairs.
