Place de la Concorde. This huge plaza connects the Tuileries Garden to L'Avenue Des Champs Elysées. It is well known for its huge Egyptian obelisk, but that is not what I want to show you...

The architect that was commissioned with the design of the plaza, Mr. Gabriel, had an octagonal shape in mind, with a huge statue in the middle. On each corner he placed a pedestal. The plaza was finished in 1775.

A long time after the French Revolution eight statues were placed on the pedestals, each one representing a French city. I don't recall which city this statue is supposed to represent, but I think it is either Lyon or Marseille... It was on the left side, next to the Tuileries' gate (with my back to the Tuileries).

Though a wonderful place, with a magnificent view over the Champs Elysées, it is also a hectic crossroad. Pedestrians risk their lives here !

Tech talk

Photo scanned from a colour negative.

Cropped to put the statue on the left 1/3rd line.

Downsized in 2 steps, sharpened everything but the sky after the final step.

Applied noise reduction on the sky; luminant noise 80 %, chromatic noise 60 %.

Nice architecture. There is a sort of old 'patine' on this photo which i do like, and it is well constructed. Somewhat funny to see man and pigeons and i believe you it was november for the color of the trees. I see no major defaut to this picture except may be the kiosk, to the right, who may be distractin.. Well seen Frank. Bye.

Ik zou die niet graag opblinken. Over de scherpte kan ik niets zeggen, ik zie alles alles wazig. Het contrast met de blauwe lucht vind ik prachtig.

Nice shot and good informative note, I like all of the detail.

Vos explications sur cette photo sont très intéressantes. Instant d'automne à Paris... magnifique. Intéressante aussi la façon dont vous avez positionné votre sujet pincipal. C'est une belle composition...
Au plaisir
Gisèle

Nice shot Frank, for the historical meaning that is ..in facts of composition it could be a lot better and i think you know it:-)), for instance the hot-dog stand ?, i think it is quite diturbing here..nevertheless a nice contribution!!

Vey nice capture of a classic Parisian monument. Your composition and framing are very good and the old man included is a nice touch!

I'm glad you survived long enough to catch the photo. I like the strong vertical lines and tight crop!
