Stairway to Circus
After all day of walking and touring the city of Paris, my feet were so sore I couldn't walk any longer. I saw a bench near this carousel which is located just opposite the Eiffel Tower. The merry lights and festive mood are akin to the Quidam I saw in Dubai, performed by the troupes and guests of Cirque du Soleil.

cirque du soleil (French for "Circus of the Sun") is a circus like no other: they do not use animals. Every show is different and all have their own original music and performances. They go around the world with their blue-yellow-striped tent (the Grand Chapiteau) performing all different shows. Some shows such as "O" ,standing for eau (water in French) only stay in some location because they need a specific stage.

It has been described as the modern circus ("Cirque Nouveau" / New Circus), and focuses upon a storyline as well as amazing performances. It has several resident and touring troupes and draws heavily from the circus tradition. Emphasizing the use of humans as performers, Cirque du Soleil does not make use of animals. Instead, its performances combine elements of street performances and busking, circus, opera, ballet, and rock music. Acts include contortionists, jugglers, feats of strength, clowning, and trapeze artists. Their costumes are very colorful. Cirque's shows traditionally do not use pre-recorded music; with some exceptions all music is played live, and in many performances the spoken parts are done in Cirquish, an imaginary language invented by the company.

Cirque's shows begin as a creative concept, usually with elements of a central story line, a design concept and the selection of a composer for the music. These elements remain relatively constant throughout the production run of a given show.

Cirque du Soleil is an entertainment empire based in Montréal, Québec Canada and founded in Baie-Saint-Paul, Québec in 1984 by two former street performers, Guy Laliberté and Daniel Gauthier.

Cirque du Soleil is now "guided" by Laliberté.

I have seen a performance of the Cirque du Soleil. It was unique and extra beautiful. The best circus I have ever seen.
This carousel is also a marvel, as it's marvellous the picture, with such POV, lights, contrast, composition... I love it.
Thank you very much for sharing.
Greetings
Maite

Me and my wife are always fond of Carousel. We have a collection at home. One of the things we have in common. Saw , the Quidam circus too in Dubai, it's too bad they don't allow photography.

Thanks so much Freddy for this post of a french-canadian icon, now a world-renowned and praised show.
Your judicious adjustment of densities provides ease of perception of fine details in mid-tones and shaded areas of this restaured caroussel.
Despite the classic appearance, I still can imagine the landing stage of a flying saucer!!
Cheers.

Salut Fred,
Cette photo est un enchantement, un vieux souvenir d'enfance, j'entend encore la musique du manège
C'est une bonne idée de l'avoir prise de nuit, l'ambiance est accentuée.
Merci !
