Fire in the hole!

The roaring sound of freedom; that’s how we called in the early 70’s when the thunderous noise was heard of the jet engine afterburners of Starfighters and Phantoms. Nowadays the noise is still there but not as frequent as half a decennium ago. The "Red threat" isn't there anymore...

Well this Mirage 2000D is making a steep 90 degree turn with his engine afterburner or reheat full open. The wing leading edge slats in extend position to get the maximum maneuverability . Or as named: flying squares. This Mirage gave a stunning show and I must admit when hearing the thunder when it’s passing the runway I still get goose bumps on my arms...the sound of my youth. Maybe you think : “Le Baron Vert est un imbécile total”, but that’s how it feels.

In the WS's you find pictures of this Mirage after landing and a close-up of the pilot in his cockpit. Hope you enjoyed this Mirage 2000D impression.

PP-talk:
Shot in RAW, opened in Nikon Editor, sharpened (low) and converted to JPEG. Opened in Adobe PS, rotated 15 degrees CCW to get a more dramatic position, adjusted contrast and brightness, increased saturation of the reheat flames. Cropped, used Neat Image to remove the last noise from the sky. Thereafter add frame and text and finally resized for TL.

N.B. The slight blurred tail is caused by the heated air of the engine.

Photo made with a Sigma 70-300mm lens.

Mirage 2000

The Mirage 2000 is a French-built multirole fighter jet manufactured by Dassault Aviation.

Development and history
The Mirage 2000 was developed by Dassault-Breguet for the Armée de l'Air as an alternative to the swing-wing Avion de Combat Futur. After the latter was cancelled in 1975 due to its growing cost and complexity, Dassault offered the Mirage 2000 as an alternative. Development of this aircraft would also give the company a competitor to the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon, which had defeated the Dassault Mirage F1 in a contest for a new fighter for the air forces of Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands and Norway. The prototype made its first flight in March 10, 1978 with test pilot Jean Coreau at the controls. The first production example flew in November 20, 1982 and the aircraft went into operational service in 1984.
Characteristics
Using the concept of the delta wing interceptor seen on the Dassault Mirage III, Dassault built a new design but still using a delta wing. This configuration is not ideal with regard to maneuverability, low-altitude flight, and distance required for take-off and landing, but has advantages in high-speed flight characteristics, simplicity of construction, low radar signature and internal volume.
Design features
• Low-set thin delta wing with cambered section, 58 degrees leading-edge sweep and moderately blended root; area-ruled; capable of carrying four air-to-air missiles.
• The aircraft's center of lift was moved in front of its center of gravity, giving the fighter a degree of instability that enhances maneuverability.
• A runway arresting hook or fairing for a brake parachute can be fitted under the tail. The landing roll was reduced by robust carbon brakes. The backward-retracting, steerable nose gear features dual wheels, while the main gear features single wheels and retracts inward into the wings.
• An airbrake is fitted on top of each wing in an arrangement very similar to that of the Mirage III. A noticeably taller tailfin allows the pilot to retain control at higher angles of attack, assisted by small strakes mounted along each air intake.
• First fighter jet with negative static stability

Good morning Hans

Fantastic capture and excellent notes. I tried to get a capture of the typhoon when I was staying at my dads as he lives just beside an airbase but my little camera just was not up to it.

Great shot, If i might just suggest I feel the black frame a little strong and I think I would have chosen white for this image but thats just personal opinion.

Great work my friend

TFS regards Helen

Tfs,
Tjutjut

Great close-up shot Hans.
I already do hear the sound of the 70's again :)
Wonderful colors insite and headwaves coming out softening the tail of the plane.
Thanks for sharing.
Kindest regards, Harry

Hello Hans,
I like air shows, and this photo is well captured, The fire in the sky well shown with great compisation and POV well done

Thanks on My Big cypress photo,

TFS Kyle

Gewoon prachtig Hans !

Technisch vraagje.
of open eerst in Capture NX ( quick and dirty )
Save, noodgedwongen, in TIF.

Groeten

Jan

WOW! Wonderful capture. Good sharpness and very good details.
Well done.

Hello Hans,

Once an Eagle was flying along with his son. Eventually a firghter jet swiftly passed over their heads. The poor little eagle had few somersaults and then selfcontrolled, anxiously asked his papa, "What was that?". The papa eagle replied, "It was a fighter jet". Little eagle asked, "Papa, why I cant fly like this?". Papa eagle passed a smile and exclaimed, "Son, because you dont have an after burner!".

A beautiful image has been taken from a nice angle. Workshop images are also beautiful. Nice photography my friend, well done.

Thanks for sharing.

Hello Hans... Amazing you you "caught" the afterglow.. wonderful action shot we do you usually get to see...

Tricia

I like that not usual angle! Yes the fire represent something powerful presented like this! :)Very dynamic shot! Just taking the circle of fire can be a good base to play a digital meteor... We already have the seed... Just adding a tail of fire :)
It sugest speed and strong song i'm sure!

Hoi Hans,
[read this very carefully, because I only type it once.... ;-) ....]
groeten,
Joop!

He Hans,

Prachtig!

Henk.

fantastic Hans.. really well done.. u taken so well the fire..
a great capture..
ciao
