One in a million....FF change

Took this shot (a one in a million change) on the Evreux air show in July this year. Some may say it's blurred, yes the lower Alpha jet from the Patrouille de France has indeed motion blur. To take such a picture like this I followed the upper jet from right to left until they were in minimum proximity of each other. The relative speed between the two aircrafts is about 1200 km/ (about 750 Mph).

I made tons of these kind of pictures, but never succeed to “prove” how close these aircrafts really are during this drill. The left wing of the lower aircraft can even be seen through the canopy of the upper aircraft. The minimum distance between these jets is about 3 meters (±10ft). Well for my idea a picture “one in a million”!

Took this shot with my 70-300mm Sigma lens aperture f/8.0 and a shutter speed of 1/1000sec

BTW in july I posted a similar picture taken at the Ochey air show. You can find it here. Did I improve?

Woah! Seeing the wing of the lower plane through the canpoy of the higher one is pretty incredible, Big Fella!

The sky looks a bit washed out, but given your equipment handicap that's acceptable :-) ha! sorry, couldn't resist...!

The pp work is pretty impressive as well, no idea how you do that framing thing. "One in a Million" fits this image perfectly - a good shot with a Nikon! HA! :-p

Hi Hans,
Wow great shot and fits the theme well, I know how difficult these shots are as I have tried and failed with the Red Arrows, IMO the motion blur of the lower jet adds to this shot to show the speed, good colours and PP work on the frame too.

Thanks and well done my friend
Regards Andy

Hiya Hansie

Fantastic :-)absolutely one in a million and excellent PP work. Love the jetwash accross the frame its really effective.

Great work my friend

TFS and for joining in the fun

Hans,

Hier gaan we weer: 9.7/10.

Hello Hans,

This really is a 'man thing'! I feel panic just seeing the plane upside down! Maybe it's because it reminds me that dead things float upside down!

But there's no denying your skill despite my cowardice! Great capture and I like the pp work!

Kind regards, my friend!
mMny thanks for your comments on 'Freaky Friday Foot-tapper!

De droom van iedere fotograaf, super timing en mag ik zeggen ook een beetje mazzel.

Hans,
One amazing shot. I always thought that there was ample clearence between the two planes, but they appear very close see from far. I guess I was wrong! Amazing feat of flying on display.
Sunil

Hi Hans,

Fantastic shot my friend . . So close one with another . . and you did great capturing this perfect moment . .
Excellent presentation . .

Tfs,

mis hier toch wat scherpte Hans
en de originaliteitsprijs verdient het ook niet meer

Very, very impressive Hans....
Love the colors and the composition... and the fact that the smoke is on the frame.
Very nice job!
I like the fact that the plane in the front is sharp and the other is blurry, caused by the panning... Great work!

Cheers,
Anneke

Hi Hans

Nice symmetry between the 2 jets & I like the blue & red exhausts extending beyond the frame borders. The contrast in sharpness between the 2 is also quite striking. Tfs!

Hi Hans,

That is a mega impressive shot, I thibk if both planes were in really sharp foucs you would lose a lot of the speed effect on this picture, so the fact the lower plane is blurred really adds something. Plus it is difficult to pan in two directions at once. Amazing timing.

Cheers
Tom

cAPTURE EXEPTIONNEL,
GOOD SHOTTE AND SUPER THE VIEW. I know how is difficult this style of picture
Also the colors and the view is super
I write for the first time in english be sure i do my best Réal. gieve me a break for a few time.. thanks Ray or Réal.

A great general idea of what are able to make, these champions of the aerobatics especially that all seems easy by the manner where all that link but to have seen with television, how these show prepares, one is very well which physical and mental force, the number of hours of flight, one needs so that these aces can offer to us, us, quietly installed on the ground, this spectacle to make us "turn the head".
Cheer for this reproduction colors and action, you also, you are an ace. Just at the good time after much of POV thus of patience, but when one likes that doesn't have importance, is not this, when one has pseudo like the GreenBaron ? :OD
Good week-end for you, Hans.

Bonjour Hans,
I went to Evreux air show and realize how difficult it is to get this correctly. Your shot is fantastic, detailed up to the cockpit interior, just in time too. I like also how you present it with the smoke off frame.

Scary!! Definitely hope it is only one in 100,000,000,000, and not when I'm flying...
Well shown

Amazing, one in a million, split second timing on this one Hans! I can see how this would be extremely difficult to shoot! Good job my Hansie!

A very Green Baron entry!
Superb colours, details and framing
I think I'll stay on the ground, if that's okay with you :)

As to the sharpness -- I can't see how you could possibly have both airplanes sharp since they're coming from opposite directions!
Some critique writers really make me laugh!!!!

Hi Hans. This is a truely spectacular aerial capture. The speed and the closeness is almost beyound imagination. Well captured and presented. I agree with your comment the speed blur enhances, rather than detracts. TFS. Murray.
