Lyon is one of the oldest cities in France. Settled by the Romans in the first century B.C., it served as the capital of Gaul where its two rivers enabled a substantial Gallo-Roman settlement to thrive on its banks. Today, you can still visit its many well-preserved Roman ruins on Fourvière Hill. In the first century A.D., Christians planted a church here and during the next century the brilliant and influential Irenanus led it through various persecutions, martyrdoms and triumphs. During the late middle ages, banks were established here and great commercial bazaars took place -- the start of Lyon's business tradition. By the time of WWII, Lyon was one of the most prosperous cities in France; during the war, it played an extremely important role in the overall French Resistance.
The Saint Jean cathedral was mainly built between the XIIth and the XIVth century (some chapels were only erected in the XVIIth century). Its beautiful gothic facade can be admired from the top of the Fourvière hill. |

Taking a picture in a church is not always easy due to the light or the people around, but you managed to get a good shot of the Vitraux. Well done Lucio
