Buds of willows, photographed on the wharves of Sévre with Niort. Background, water of Sévre, difficult for me to make a good focus, the fast flow embarrassing to me from making the focus on the branch with the catkins, but more obstinate than me... than woman wants... here thus the result. I hope that that you will like it and that it will enable you to wait (I think of those which languish themselves in snow and the winter) that spring comes to you too.

The Pussy Willow or Salix caprea is a shrub, sometimes a small tree, very frequent in the wetlands, the undergrowth or the hedges, native to Europe and western and central Asia.

It form often a well ramified bush, with rather flexible, generally set up and vigorous branches. With the age, its trunk becomes greyish and fissured longitudinally; this willow can all the same reach 10 to 15 m in height.
The young greenish branches carry alternate null and void sheets, of oval form and at pointed end.
Their wrinkled higher face is green dark while the other face is greyish and fluffy.
The base of the petiole is often accompanied by two stipulate of more or less large size (Stipulate: element resembling a small sheet, tongues or spine fixed at the point of fastener of the petiole with the stem).

It's in middle of winter that this shrub has a full decorative effect because it's the first to assemble an obvious sign of the awakening of the vegetation by the blooming of its very many yellow catkins, of rather important size.

Only the male subjects produce flowers with yellow stamens joined together in catkinss whereas the subjects females produce flowers with pistils, also joined together in catkins, but of greenish color, definitely less interesting.

The male catkins hold well in bouquet and release much pollen which one finds around the vase.

Male flowers and female flowers constitute a providence for the bees and bumblebees because they are provided with nectaries which release an abundant nectar.

The fruits, which develop quickly in the catkins female, are provided with silver bristles.

The bark of the willow marsaul, cheating in tannin, is used to treat leather; it contains, like that of all the willows, the saliciline next to the aspirin.

This plant used to be a symbol of spring when I was a child. Branches were sold on the market. I have not seen it for a long time as it does not grow in warm climate. Very nice picture, well chosen background of the water.

Il sont bien mignons tes petits willows que l'on appelle aussi chatons ou minous. C'est un bon signe du printemps. La photo est très lumineuse et j'aime bien l'arière plan flou et la teinte de bleu qui fait ressortir les bourgeons du saule.
Sais-tu, je commence à aimer la neige depuis qu'elle a décidé de fondre à fondre.
